Market Samurai: Alternative?

Hi guys, what I'm after is an alternative to Market Samurai which can analyse a link or the top links for a keyword, and tell me where their backlinks are?

The most I can do with a free version on MS is find keywords, what they are worth and how many searches they have. I really need to find the highest ranking sites for specific keywords, and see what backlinks they have.

I want to rank for a site that's not your usual.. it's an aspergers site and I'm not currently selling anything.

Any reliable program ideas will be appreciated!

I'm not sure about alternatives, but I do know many IMers (including myself) swear by Market Samurai. If you have the $147 to invest, it's definitely going to pay you back in the long run. If you plan to be in this business for an extended period of time, many will tell you MS is a necessity.

However, sometimes a person just doesn't have that kind of investment on-hand, and you can do a lot of the research manually. One of the main things to check for competition (obviously) is backlinks. You can get search volume from the Google Adwords tool, and a rough count of backlinks from Backlinkwatch.com.

Just Google your keyword, open the first few pages in new tabs, and copy/paste your URLs into Backlinkwatch. Obviously MS reports on many other levels, but search volume and number of URL backlinks are going to be two of the most important pieces of information you need.

Doing it this way will take significantly more time, but will give you that information for free.

For the other features that you miss out from the paid version of MS, give Traffic Travis a go. I think version 3 is still free. Alternatively you can just use the Google Keyword Tool and the firefox/chrome add-on, SEO Quake.

I would just download the trial version of market samurai like I did, and then they let you purchase their software for $97.00 before your trial is up.

I haven't been able to use Market Samurai consistently for a few months now. I think it has something to do with Google changing their keyword tool. I also have Traffic Travis but that seems to be facing the same issues.

Yeah market samurai has been a real pain in recent weeks. It has been awful in fact at times.

Now do not get me wrong I LOVE MS, but get totally frustrated with it when it just hangs or doesn't work which has been quite alot lately.

I really hope the guys at MS get it sorted out soon.

I downloaded the free trial yesterday and am also having major dificulties.


Every time I try to analyse 4000 keywords in keyword research, the captcha comes up and I enter it, the program stalls and have to cancel out of search..

I am trying to analyse 4000 keywords in keyword research. I have selected only , Total Searches, AWCPC, SEOC, max 100000, Match Type = phrase and period = monthly.
Sometime it looks for captcha before it starts to analyse and other times it gets to 84% before it looks for a captcha but when i enter in the captcha there it then stalls at all times.

any one else having this problem? It is so frustrating

I would vote for Link Assitant's Spyglass. It is quite stable (more than MS).

Rank tracking is not at all accurate from MS in last 3 months or so. Rank Tracker is far more accurate and I schedule it to check rankings of about 150 keywords every night on my VPS.

For backlinks, it gives data of more than 1000 backlinks as it checks on numerous sources and not just Yahoo. Plus the data about all those backlinks is very accurate as well.

Also, you can check the ranking of your competitors for those keywords in the same go which is really handy ! The human simulation feature works really well and doesn't temp block you from search engines.

I'm with you, Dawg. I got the trial and the same day their cloud server crashed. A few weeks later, I asked for a renewed trial so I could give it another chance.

In spite of the fixed server, it's given me nothing but frustration. I seriously want to love this POS, it seems like 90% of WF swear by it.

I, on the other hand, find myself wanting to bash my screen in everytime I power the program up.

Hi, I tried Backlink Cloner. I love it - very fast and easy to use. Good for spying Backlinks on Page 1 Google SERPs.
To find comprehensive niche keywords, I have downloaded and tested Free Keyword Optimizer Pro (KOP). Note: I bought Niche Finder and love it before I found KOP. KOP is free now but not forever. Very very fast. Superior technology. Easy to install. I LOVE IT. I think KOP has great money making potentials and you must try KOP first before buying other keyword software. I hate slow software.... (but KOP does not have as many features as Market Samurai)

A friend of ours created a MarketSamurai competitor you can check out: LongTailPro.

Honestly, I prefer Market Samurai overall because it's so much more robust, but it has been having issues the past few weeks/months. LongTailPro is much faster, even if it doesn't have all of the bells and whistles. We use to to analyze the first page competition right now, but I've found a few niches with it as well.

If you do the top 10 on Google by hand, for free, and do it correctly, you would need to spend at least 20 minutes PER KEYWORD

what if the site has 10,000 backlinks, you going to sit there and wait for that? and thats only one site?

I can analyze at a glance the top 10 competition for a kw in Market Samurai in 30 SECONDS, show me a free tool that can do that

The best, fastest, and most expensive keyword tool is SECockpit. It isn't even close. Market Samurai is just too unstable for me to use it anymore. It's been freezing up on me for months

MS is too much money for me, I was looking for the best possible keyword research tool in the $47 dollar range. I have to wait till the end of the week, but I have decided on Brad Callen's niche finder.

I know this thread is old, but was wondering if you Market Samurai users are still using it now that they're pulling data from Bing instead of Google.

I'm trying to pick good keywords for a real estate client and "property for sale north carolina" looked like a good phrase. Market Samurai makes it look like it is anyway.

Searching in quotes, you get:
52 results in Bing
15 MILLION results in Google

That is a HUGE difference! How can I justify making some pages to target that phrase for Google search results with such high numbers?

I want to do right by my clients, but Market Samurai just lost a LOT of its luster with this example...and now I'm shopping for keyword tool alternatives.

That's pretty much what I use it for. I do use the other functions but the main draw card is getting that quick overview of the top 10. If it looks like a decent KW then I drill down from there.

No need to spend money on MS to research top 10 competition. The free version of Traffic Travis has this feature. (And, I believe, up to 10 keywords at once.)

Yes i totally agree on the data side. It gives us great data which would take 10 times more of our time to do with Google keyword tool but there are some annoyances how Market Samurai work which i think new updates should fix.

For example,

1. on Keyword research you can save custom filter but why not SEO competitor? That's weird.

2. Another thing, MS is sucked at naming each column. It's very hard to remember when you call each colume like SEOLC, SEOTC, SEOTT, SEOVV it's silly!@@ If it's going to be SEO all the columns then cut the term out would be a wise thing to do. Very basic stuff.

3. How it open, name and close project. Many would agree on this one. I would like to call my project as some thing like 'phone keywords' but i can't since it forces us to use the first keyword as project name. And make it hard to do otherwise.

I hope to see better user-friendly on the next update. please!
