Hello Warriors! My brother owns a dental practice: bloo-dental.com and I've been trying to get his site ranked top in Google Places for the keyword: Ashburn Dentist He's got 36 reviews on his Google Places page. What am I missing?! Please HELP! |

first off go buy ashburndentist.co and .info these are available this way you'll have a much better chance ranking high when the name is actually a part of you domain name. Then create back links... and that's videos, blogs, articles etc, and make sure you use key words like ashburndentist, ashburn dentiist, and words similar to that. Also quickly go buy ashburndentists.com .net .org .co and .info that's 7 domain names you should buy total. Now if you already have a website then that's even better because when you buy these domain names all you have to do is ask the customer service to link them all to your main website... This way when someone clicks on one of your domain names it'll take them to your main website... You could quickly become number 1 this way and there's not much competition.

The only thing I have ever heard about ranking in Google Places was to turn ON all of its functionality. You place images, videos, hours of operation, reviews and so on. If there is an option to put something in your account than you do. That is the only thing, I have heard about trying to rank.

There is really no SEO for google places. It's about relevancy, location, and ratings. Url does not matter, as google places is not really about websites. It's more like a yellow pages listing that may or may not have a website. When you sign up, it is imperative that you be as truthful as truth gets. That is, location, telephone, etc. Very hard to go back and change it. Load in the neighborhood map. If the dental office does not show up, you are in a bit of trouble. Google places is not SERP rankings. You may have regular listings mixed in. Don't worry about any such keywords in a domain. Dentists are notorious for using their own names and stuff like thehappytooth.com or smiledental.com or something like that. As stated, domains don't matter with google places anway. You need to make sure you are listed in the exact location on the map. Here's another trick if you wish to be found in SERPS. Get the dental office listed in the real local yellow pages and it will also show up. FYI: I just did a search for ashburn virginia dentists He must be using adwords, because his ad showed up #1. He seems to be #24 in the superpages. What that means is that his listing is not very good. He needs to emphasize dentist and dentistry. He also needs to pump up the reviews and get 5 star ratings. He has zero ratings on superpages. Google also takes ratings from yelp and other 3rd party listings. Paul |

Yes I've claimed his places listing, filled out all of the info, etc. I guess I'll need to add more reviews to his superpages and yelp pages.

That site above ^ has a lot of the local "goodies" listed. If you want a solid list, you can check out Local Lasso and click on the spreadsheet image, top right. Also, build some backlinks to those citation resources to give them some extra juice. -Jim |

I went back 3 pages and didnt find your GP page. I used your phone number to pull it up. Your page is better optimized than many that show up before you. Many of the GP pages dont even have a website. I think google has penalized you for some reason. Have you been posting reviews from the same IP addy? Something is going on there fo sho...

The key is also getting lots of citations. These are listings of your business on other sites. Use this site to help you find them. You create an account and then search for citation sources. Then go to these sites and try to register for free with as many as you can and add your business. It is important that the details match your Google page exactly. E.g. exactly the same business name, phone number address etc. If these are different Google might not be able to match them and you won't get credit for them. These are the 'backlinks' of google places, so get as many as you can. whitespark.ca |

You just need to drill down into your market a bit more. Sorry ... could not resist. Oh come on ... did you think you were going to get away with not even one bad dentist joke? |

How recently was it optimized? If it was just optimized in last week or two, could take a little while to show and he might not be penalized, just awaiting google to move it. I have not looked at the site - just something I've seen. Had a great optimized site - best for the local profession - about 3 weeks after optimized, went from nowhere to #2, then about 3 weeks later #1. Just some thoughts. TheShark |

Yes I'm confused as well. I've optimized his G Places page and he has tons of positive reviews. No I have not submitted "fake" reviews either, so I'm not sure why Google is not displaying it in the top of the results. What can I do about this? Anyone have a similar situation with a Google Places listing?

Meaning it's been a few weeks since I've claimed/completed his listing. I think it might have to do with his Google Places listing as it says "Ashburn Dentist - Bloo Dental" maybe Google doesn't like the KW being in the listing title?

I bet its because there is 2 separate listings for the same business and same address. This is a no no.

Weird. I thought I removed the duplicate listing a few weeks ago. I'll have to check again.

Also, get the Same Citations that his competitors in the 7 Pack have. Place pictures & videos on the G Places page & label them with the keywords you want to rank for. Those are just a few tricks. | |

I suggest you go to "Whitespark" and pay the twenty bucks for one month access to their citation finder. It diggs deep into local/local E.G. chamber of commerce.local news, local groups, dentist associations ect.... I am in the dentist niche as well and I have come up with over 1400 citations in my area and the surrounding areas. Now I just need to outsource these at $2/hr. |

Ahmed Bro, you need to think of it as a simple web page too. Optimize the titles and description, if possible, even the reviews, for keywords. Throwing in a couple of good backlinks will never hurt, just like for any normal website. |
