These are two good methods. Besides, post meaningful comments on those big blogs, they will visit your blog and if you got high quality contents, they might review your blog. Just make sure you're communicating, not spamming.

They wont say a word.

there are so many big sites out there that dont really have a clue about backlinks. Those are cheaper and sometimes free but the links they give are priceless. Probably alot of them in your niche if its big enough.
