Default Long tail k.w. contains shorter k.w.s.

If I have a long tail k.w. such as "long green steel train", and I also want to rank for "green steel train" and "steel train", do I need to use them separately in my meta k.w.s and content or are they also covered every time I use the k.w. "long green steel train"? Thank you.

Don't worry about your meta tags like that. They aren't a big factor (if any) any more. Write your description to capture the attention of people in the search engine. The keywords do get bolded so that's the biggest plus from mentioning them.

Content wise, you don't need to do anything extra to cover the short keywords. Just write great factual content and you'll mention all the right things.

To help boost the rankings for those shorter keywords you will need to create some backlinks using those shorter terms as your keywords. I like to start with the longest first as this will get you the results fast. From here you can move down the list and target the next longest.

All of the backlinks you create will help each other and you'll find that as you build links for the longer keywords the ranks for the shorter keywords will also improve.

As Fraggler said don't worry about your meta tags, they are useless now. Just use the words seperately in your body and also in your link building use all the combination's. This is a great way to target a bunch of long tail keywords.
