Although many sneer, and even more NEVER get approved for DMOZ, there are few of us who would say no to a listing in the open directory. It CAN'T be bad for our site's rating. Now, I know people say it takes forever, or that they have tried and failed to get their sites listed, but I wonder - could that be because most of those sites are KERRRAP, and have no hope of being included? I was thinking of trying to get my company site listed - it's a legit offline business, the home page is PR4 without any artificial linking from me and it fits the profile of sites I see listed in the SERPS all the time that have DMOZ listings. The question is, is DMOZ even functioning any more? Do ANY sites still get approved? Has anyone got in recently? |

I submitted 2 sites. 1 was of my client and it is an authority site in its niche. Both were rejected.

Oh well, I submitted my corporate site, so we will see - it's actually very simple, less hoops to jump through than most web directories, so it only takes a minute. If I experience a miracle I will be sure to let the WF know!

For me, DMOZ is sort of a set and forget thing. Once a site has at least 20 content pages, I submit it to DMOZ and forget about it. I'd say, less than 10% of my sites got accepted. On the other hand, many of my sites are sniper sites.

| Sure, well, I am not even going to try getting any kind of affiliate or Adsense site approved - I am pretty sure they are not approving those! But a serious corporate site? Well, there are MANY of those listed... Or at least, they used to get listed in the past...

One of my sites has recently been accepted, to be honest I submitted the site and then didn’t give it a second thought as I didn’t think it would be listed, about two months later I just happened to check and there it was, very happy!

![]() What sort of niche was it in? I guess you would say it was a quality site, not a thin affiliate or anything? Did you notice any ranking improvements around that time?

They are very strict to what category you submit. The best approach is to search one of your competitors which is listed in DMOZ and submit your site in the same category. |

Unless one of your competitors is the editor in that category(which happens a lot) and sandbags your submission (which again happens a lot) It just really depends on the category and who is doing the approving. That place is more corrupt than Chicago politics.

I was wondering the same... is DMOZ still functioning... I submited a new website a few days ago just to try one more time if something could happen. I was almost sure DMOZ is abandoned... However, you just gave me some hope again Petarx ! I think I'm gonna wait a few more days and then contact the section admin ! |

Dmoz is no longer approve directories now its just waste of time. There are many other directories with High PR and good alexa ranking try to target them with different keywords. You will get very good results with your Long Tail keywords |

Dude even when you do get approved the process takes months (or years). At a few days you are so far back in the line you can not even see the front.

| Oh sure, I don't see it as the Holy Grail, that's for sure. It's just a juicy link - high-PR domain, heavily curated content (to put it mildly!) Worth having if you can get it. I did also wonder about the competitor-editor thing though...

| I agree with you its really better to concentrate on other directories where you get approval in 1-2 week rather waiting for months and years for your approvals.

I haven't gotten a site approved there in years, and have submitted some of my best, most authoritative, informative sites. I've got this visual in my head at this point that the DMOZ moderator control center (there is no such thing, I know) is a bunch of empty computer rooms and one janitor walking around chasing mice off the dusty keyboards

Nope :/ submitted my site - never even got a response. I've pretty much just given up submitting to them, some say it doesn't even help your website. Oh well, maybe next time...oh wait I won't get accepted next time either...

I have an authority site and submitted month ago, no reply and not in it, looks like many categorie mods are business owners or have a website listed and reject any competitors. Dmoz is like communist sites. Have a friend as mod and you get your site in. No transparency. What's the purpose of a web directory? List some friends site?

Since 2006 I have submitted many sites to Dmoz and never had one accepted. All the same niche, but different categories each time. I am sure the editor is a competitor or at least working with one of them. I guess a bribe can mean inclusion for you and exclusion for those you don't like. It's a shame google still puts so much weight on Dmoz links given how corrupt and silly it has become. |
