How to get more traffic when you already ranking NO.1 in Google?

Hello Warriors

I have a website that ranking very well in Google( usually #1 or #2 ) on my main keywords, i have steady traffic everyday, now i wanna get more traffic, how can i do that ? in fact, i only dominate 2-3 keywords, there are many keywords i can SEO, but the competition is ready tough, the competitors got domain like keywords(dot)com/net/org, so i think it's not worth to mess with them. i heard that article marketing is another traffic resource , but i didn't try it. i'll appreciate if anyone can guide me.

Also, the keywords which i got good ranking is pretty compete too, although i update my site daily with unique article written by my article provider (i didn't build backlinks), i don't know whether i can ranking #1 tomorrow , so i wanna purchase some SEO service to keep my ranking, people told me that linkwheel is very good for my ranking, i don't know, maybe i'll give it a shot.i'll appreciate if anyone can guide me on how to keep my ranking.

You need to go after more keywords. It doesn't matter if the competition is tough or not. Make a new domain or new pages and get to it. You can also look into advertising, but you'd be better off just doing SEO on another 4-5 keywords.

Going after more keywords is definitely one way to gain more traffic. if you don't want to mess with going through and setting up a new site, you can use a subdomain. Search engines see subdomains as fresh new domains as far as ranking is concerned. buying advertisements is always an option, just make sure to track your ROI so you know whether its worth it or not. There are tons of other ways to gain traffic though. Post your articles on other websites with backlinks to your own site, social media like twitter and facebook can get you followers or you can follow others and use their fanbase to get a little trickle of traffic from them.

If you could get some keywords to rank #1 or #2 means that you have the SEO ability that almost everybody envies. Find more keywords and try to rank them, it doesn´t matter if the competition is big, the higher competition the more money there is to be made! Ok maybe you can´t have the #1 or #2 but maybe #4 or #5 or #7… If you can get the first page on a high competition keyword, you believe me, you will have tons of traffic.

I think that eventually you reach a point where you don't WANT more traffic. Not because more traffic isn't good, but because the effort to get that traffic isn't worth it.

When I rank highly for my top two to three keywords, I move onto another site. Unless you are building a huge authority site, I suggest you do the same

I agree Mike. I think this is pretty good advice.

Aside from ranking well for your primary keywords, one could start to go after long tailed keywords with sub-categories and pages on their site.

But, like you said, I think at a certain point it becomes better to go after new traffic for new sites instead of using those man hours to extract a little more traffic for the main site.

I would normally agree with you, but not this time. Remember he said this:

This means that he has not done anything with those keywords and even if he cannot get on #1 spot because of the big competition, is good to try to get to the first page. He has the ability so he can do it. If the competition is so high as he says, is worth a 1000 times the work.

I think it depends on the keywords, the niche, the competition, his resources, and a ton of other factors.

For example, if it takes him all available resources to get to page 2 in two years, and then and additional 3 years to break into the top 5, it may have been a wiser use of time to rank several other sites for different keywords in different niches.

Obviously, this is an extreme example, but if he's going after an extremely commercialized niche, he may never get to page 1 simply due to his competition having much more resources. A private webmaster vs big named sites who have SEO firms with 100s of employees is going to be a lost cause if they are competing for the same search terms. The firm will be able to get so much more done than the private individual in any given time frame.

The thing about #1 rankings is once you get them, you can't stop working on them... your competition is always going to be building and attempting to overtake you. So when you are trying to rank for an extremely commercialized term, and you're building and building to try and break into the top 10, usually your competition is building also to stay ranked ahead of you. So, in theory, if the two sites are of equal skill in terms of SEO, the smaller guy is always going to be playing catchup to the one with more resources.

But, like I said, all this really depends on so many factors that only the OP knows if it's worth his time to pursue additional keywords.

Search engines are far from being the only sources of traffic.

You might, for example, get plenty of well-targeted traffic by having articles syndicated in relevant ezines. I can't pretend to be one of them, but some Warriors are making a very good living from that alone, without any of their sites ranking in the top few hundred places of any SERP's at all.

This is a big trap when i was first online.

Just enjoy the success and use your enthusiasm to take even more action.

I do not know who said it, but i have always like that saying

ACTIONS BREEDS RESULTS

and while you have the fire in your belly its more likely that your work will be better, so go out there and take more action and you will see more results.

Create more content, then keep checking your logs for the keywords you are ranking for. You will be surprised at how many long-tail searches there are. You will find opportunities that you had never even considered before.

Consider using adwords or other means of advertising. When potential customers see your website both as #1 in the organic search and also #1 or #2 in the Ads section, they're more likely to click on you => more traffic.

If you have ranked for "keyword" then try ranking for sub keywords (long tail keywords) like "how to +keyword" or something like than. Use google suggest.
