Can squeeze page lower Google ranking?

Hi. Newbie here. I have a website that was ranked #1 organically on page 1 of a Google search for less than a week. It had been ranked about 8th for a while and then I started to optimize the pages for SEO which apparently took it up to #1.

A day or two later, I put in a squeeze page (a light box that pops up) and checked it a couple of days later and it had dropped back down to #8. Is it possible that the squeeze page dropped it down? TIA.
