Here's a little tool that you can use for free right now to spy on your competitors' backlinks: Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch Just go to the site, enter your competitor's website, and reveal many of their backlinks in a matter of minutes! How can this tool help you? Use your imagination. If you see that the site that your competitor's backlink is placed on allows dofollow comments (the tool shows this), go make a comment on that same site using your keyword as the anchor text. That's just one way to see what your competitors are doing. Hope that helps. |

I recommend SEO Spyglass, the free version has everything as well (just limits you to viewing 1,000 backlinks).

Are you trying to rank the front page for all 4 keywords? If so, you should instead focus on 1 page per keyword. For example: www.yoursite.com - should be optimized for keyword 1 (the main keyword) www.yoursite.com/keyword2 - optimized for keyword 2 And so on. This has the additional benefit that if your site grows pretty large, each page can rank pretty high in Google and drive a lot of traffic. Best of luck! Vic |

SEOSpy is good tool to find competitor's links against your keyword. Best thing is that it has free version and I am using that free version which is enough for me.

Grab SEO Spyglass. The free version is somewhat limited, but it should be enough in most cases.

I agree with the spyglass recommendation. If you're looking for a web based tool then I'd add spyfu.com and SEMrush.com to the list also though. Hope that helps, Amira!

I love Scrapebox for my competitive analysis. It allows me to check the pagerank of the first few pages of competitors in seconds, I then take those same URLs and check the backlinks of my competitors and then run a pagerank check on those to see what type of backlinks my competitors have. If needed I can even take it a step further to see the type of traffic they receive and a variety of other techniques that allow me to be sure that the niche I'm going into is worthwhile. |

I usually use Market Samurai to check my competition for specific keywords. It shows you a ton of info such as domain age, page rank, backlinks to the page, backlinks to the entire site, edu/gov links, directories, on page SEO and last time the site was crawled. Very helpful. It costs $100 or $150. If you want to keep costs low. Download the SEOQuake plugin for firefox. It shows you all that info, quickly, and its free. As for checking links to competitors sites. I use Market Samurai. A free option, that I think MS actually uses is Yahoo Site Explorer. Just Google it, and you'll see more. |

I've used Market Samuari for 2 years now and like it, but got frustrated with it's speed (runs slow). I switched to the SEO PowerSuite products (SEO Spyglass, etc) and think I like those better for what they do, in this case referring to checking competitors links. SEO Spyglass has a free version that should be fine for starting out, $99 if you buy it standalone but doubt if that's necessary for you right now. My 2 cents....

I use Market Samurai to do this. It lets you see which backlinks they have, and also what PR those backlinks are. That way you can focus on going after their high PR backlinks first.

What's the problem? Many services show competitors and is not a problem to find such a service. Google knows everything.=) Problem is that you have to use all of them to see how profitable particular service is. Difference in price. I tensed up, examine five or six services and stopped on semrush. It shows competitors and guys don't overcharge, like others for its services. it's nice to work when affordable service provides a truly quality information.

| SEO SpyGlass is a much better option than Market Samurai for this. MS will only tell you what is currently indexed as a backlink. However, SEO SpyGlass will go a few steps further. For example, it will tell you if the link still exists and if it is NoFollow. Also, if you get the paid version, you can choose a whole host of search engines to search for backlinks in, not just Yahoo. |
