Default Can someone help me understand the <h> tags a bit better please

Hi everyone

I am going to put ten articles on my homepage that all contain my main keyword in the title.

I was thinking i would start offf with <h1> and start going down to <h6> but theres more than 6 articles and maybe thats the wrong way to do it.

Should i just <h1> tag one of the articles and then <h2> the rest?

And can i <h1> tag an article thats half way down instead of the one at the top?

Maybe im just over thinking it.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Andy - putting your keywords in the h1 and h2 tags is a great way to help Google figure out what your site is about. I'm not sure at what point Google would begin discounting h1 tag text if you have that many h1 tags. I suspect that 1 or 2 h1 tags and several h2 tags would look more natural to Google. You can also use the bod and italics tag to help Google spot your keywords.

-If you're gonna put ten articles on the homepage, then their titles all need to be <h2>
-You should only have one <h1> on a single page. So for the homepage the header text title can be <h1>
-Some wordpress themes automatically change the Head title text. <h1> for homepage and something else for other pages
-Individual articles should have one <h1>. You can use an unlimited amount of h2, and h3.
-For each article, you can bold the keyword twice, italicize and underline once.
-For each article, make a nofollow link to an authority site with the keyword as anchor. You can use text-decoration to make it look like a regular text. Authority sites should be wikipedia, about.com, amazon.com, etc
-Try not over do it with the h1, h2, h3 tags. Too much can really hurt a page.
-Use a plugin to help with all this. I recommend SEOPressor.
