Default Google dance this brutal?

I have a total of 16 keywords right now. Yesterday I have in the top 200 for all but 1. Today I check and I'm in the top 200 for 7, and the other 9 keywords aren't found at all. These are the same keywords that were on the second page of google yesterday. This is killing me... My main domain isn't even recognized now??

Yes, it is just that brutal! Did you just start building these keywords? I started working on a few keywords and every other day I am out of the SERPS. Can't find it at all but the next day I return in a higher position. I have not faded in and out this much before but I am guessing this the dance we play in the very beginning.

My sites about 3-4 months old. This is the most drastic change I've seen since June 7th or so when google messed with their algo. I've just now started outsourcing backlinking so I'm getting more backlinks, but they've only been working for about 7 hours. I'm using Paul and Angela's backlinks and some social bookmarking mainly at the moment. I guess I'll have to check back in tomorrow.

Sorry about that Michael, but why do you track 200 keywords DAILY?

I track 17 keywords, and search either the top 200 or top 500 results in google.

Ops, completely misread your OP, sorry.

Anyway, I imagine you take a couple minutes to do that operation. Why don't you stay focused on content writing or backlinking instead of watching serp's? I know it can be addictive but...

I usually check once a day just to make sure things are looking ok, and I was specifically checking to see how many of my outsourcers backlinks from yesterday have stuck. I just checked today and saw these CRAZY results. I'm not going to panic, just keep running smoothly. Hopefully tomorrow will return to normalcy.

Did you have to many backlinks hit all at once? Keep on going don't panic and it should return and for me it has always returned with a better ranking. Good luck! and yes, report back!

Mines more like 8 visitors a day up to 20 haha....don't take those "bad" numbers for granted.

LOL! I'm like Michael. Happy when I get 20 a day so far. I can't wait for the day when I get 200 and say "what the heck is wrong with my site(s)".

Good work Jeremy!

Yep - that's a typical Google dance.

Keep in mind though anything outside of the top 100 really isn't even worth tracking/monitoring as the rankings that far back are in the supplemental index and no one ever dives that deep into a search anyways.

I'd focus on top 50 and not waste my time on rankings that far back.

As expected. Sometimes that happens, you gotta wait for the algorithm to kick in and then you'll see if the big G is allowing you to do what you're already doing.

As so many others have pointed out, after getting punched (forget slapped) from page 1 to page 500+ - then back to page 1 - then BACK to page 500+ - I began to notice the poor quality of some of the page 1-3 sites ranking for my keywords. I mean, really BAD. No design, no content, no images, nothing.

I know this all sounds like a broken record (for those of you old enough to understand that reference) - but is this what life in IM is going to be like from now on?

Like many (most?) of us, I've invested my time, energy and money in learning to generate organic traffic. But I'm clearly beginning to understand the wisdom of buying traffic.

As someone posted elsewhere, "control your traffic and control your business."

Now... how many new ebooks and programs will I have to buy to learn that???

That's harsh, but it is something that will happen if you are not doing anything for a while and then start a link building campaign. The one thing that caught me on what you said was that your main domain is not ever recognized now? What do you mean by that?

And as of this morning - back on page 1. SO... from page 1, to 500+, to 1, to 500+, and back to page 1 again... all within the past 6 weeks. This has happened to TWO sites, both same niche, one is a feeder for the other. Bizarre!!!

Is anyone else experiencing this kind of massive back and forth???

I'm glad these sites aren't money-makers (okay, I'm really not glad).
