steve, thanks for the quick reply. I was referring to the recent articles such as "European River Cruise - A More Affordable Luxury Cruise Vacation" which was written by a Harwood E Woodpecker. This article is posted on your blog and I have just searched on google and it seems that the article on your blog is listed higher than the original version on ezinearticle.com. I wanted to ask whether posting articles from ezinearticles, or other article directories, will lead to any repercussion from google for duplicate content? And the same time, whether these articles are bringing in any traffic? thanks again ![]() Jared |

Hi Jared, the article you are referring to is actually one of the articles that I have used from Ezine articles that was not written by myself. I was not aware that the version on my blog was higher than the Ezine article listing.. I am happy about that and just proves that the duplicate content myth is just that, a MYTH... I shall check my stats to see if any traffic is coming from this article. Quote:

Okay, thanks for highlighting this article Jared because now that I have just checked my analytics, I noticed that this article is performing reasonably well on my blog! For the month of April, this duplicate content article had 177 unique visitors and actually earned me a reasonable amount in Adsense with respect to the visitor count. This proves beyond any doubt that using articles from directories is a GOOD strategy to use when done correctly. Thanks Jared for bringing this article to my attention! Quote:

It does, but there is a major point I want to make about this and I can't stress how important this is.. A new site that is just stuffed to the gills with duplicate content will NOT do as well as a site that has some kudos in the eyes of Google which also uses duplicate content. In all my testing, if I have a site that has mainly original content and has earned some trust from google after a few months. If I have done everything else right according to the webmaster guidelines then I can use duplicate content and expect it to do well in the SERPS. This is a very important point about using content from the directories. |

Steve, do you think the income will still grow or at least stay stable if you stop updating the blog and stop off page work like submitting articles and doing link building and such ? Or by stopping you will allow some competitors to beat you with getting more back links?

I have just checked myself and yes it has risen in the rankings again but its on page 2 of Google for me.. I guess it depends on your location and Google data centre. However, I have seen some significant increases in traffic as a result of this latest rise. ![]() Quote:

All depends on the history of the domain, also all PR is lost once the domain is expired. The backlinks are definitely a good thing (so long as they are good neighborhoods). Given the choice between an expired domain or a good domain bought at sitepoint for example then the second option is the best. It can be a bit of a minefield though and you need to be sure about what you are doing. |

Steve, Very smart the way you dispose your ads above the fold. I saw that you used another colour for your ads and wonder if your CTR produces better than the traditional colour. One negative comment is the translator. As I speak 5 languages I checked some of the translations and most of it doesn't make any sense. Personally I would never use it, but hey maybe it produces some ad money. ![]() Btw, I saw that you're on the first page now, which is fantastic. I'll bet you will reach the $100 mark in a few months. Great job! |

I've just spend the past hour reading the blog related to this challenge and it's been an immense eye opener. The majority of methods I already know but it's nice to see it put to paper and see it laid out in steps. I'm sure this will help others greatly. Are you going to share the url now the challenge is over? |

steve with all the traffic that you are getting from this blog - why not offer us a really cool wordpress theme complete with link backs to your site that we can use and provide you with backlinks Just curious, doesnt having a blog in a expensive keyword high converting clicks niche guarantee you more money. Cheers Nick. |

I won't stop with this blog as this my whole philosophy as to why I disagree with having hundreds of sites is because you can never give them the attention they deserve. Having a limited number of good quality sites that are easy to grow and control is the very important. So just to point out, I am not stopping but I have slowed down the rate of posts and backlinking. Quote:

I also have a large number of sites, some Adsense, some using other monetization methods. Some are blogs, either WordPress or Blogger based, while others are various types of HTML or PHP mini-sites. I like having the wide portfolio of keyword targeted sites rather than trying to limit my efforts to small number of markets. Either method, few sites or many, will work though. It's just a matter of what you're able to manage well. You've got to know where your skill sets lie and how to apply them to your online business. | |

I think I just need to clarify that when I refer to a few sites I mean as opposed to building lots of rubbishy automated type sites where you are not even remotely aware of the content on those sites. If you are confident that you can "control" 10, 100 or even 500 sites and know exactly what content you have on each and how you promoted them then you go for it! Quote:

I have been reading on the topic for quite a time. I have my own blog which is earning $4 to 6 per day on the average. I was not expecting the sucess... I would love to make it earning more than $100 daily. I am sure the technique will work on existing blogs.. |

I was reading your post about blogging to reach $100 per day in three months, and noticed it stopped in January. Were you ever able to reach that goal? How did it turn out? I really appreciate all the helpful information. Thanks, Hal |

Wonderful thread so far and many ideas discussed. Currently my philosophy has been similar to bgmcaw's as I find that several of my sites still make small returns even though I have spent no more time on them in the last few years. For me as long as the site's pay for the hosting and then some then I'm happy to let them run. However, I have recently been considering building higher quality sites that can be turned to affiliate sales, adsense or other models.

Well, it looks like I need to change your mentality a bit more then.. Try not to think of it as a way of making cash but starting a business where your websites are your virtual real estate. It might seem like a pedantic point but once you get out of the "make money online" mindset and actually start approaching it as a business then you can focus more. |

With regard to making money from Adsense via a few websites or many websites all depends on the individual and the model they are adopting. Obviously both can work and neither approach is wrong if it's working for that individual. When you bottom line everything it all comes down to numbers and if the numbers 'work' then you have a positive ROI that is scaleable. That's all that matters. Dean |

The tagline can be changed easy enough in the wordpress admin area, go to Settings and then General and you can change the tagline there. If you drop me an email to my support address with your request for a change to the header with how you would like it to look then I will change it for you. |
