I embed the video about cat from you tube.

So long as you have permission to use the video then you are not breaking any rules. People have used videos without permission on Adsense sites for a long time without any problems but it is a big risk.

You will only run into problems if the DMCA get a complaint about copyright infringement. They will then get onto Adsense and you then could run into problems with losing your Adsense account, I personally don't think it is worth the risk..

Google own youtube and they provide embedding code for every video, why would they limit or prohibit publishing videos if they are those who provide the ability to republish youtube videos outside youtube?

Given that Google owns both Adsense and YouTube I think Steve's copyright concern is a bit overblown. I've never heard of anyone having any trouble with showing embedded YouTube videos on their site.

However, using YouTube videos on an Adsense site isn't a good idea because it greatly cuts down on CTR. People watch the video and another and another get entertained and forget the question that they came to your site to get answered, preferably from clicking the ads you're displaying. Remember that the ads are supposed to be the star of the show, not a video.

Maybe it is a bit overblown but I seem to recall a massive thread here on warrior about this very issue of the DMCA and youtube videos. It is quite clear in the Adsense TOS that they will take action against any copyright infringement brought to their attention, not just videos from Youtube. I quote..

"It is our policy to respond to notices of alleged infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). For AdSense publishers, if we receive a notice or otherwise have reason to believe that your site is infringing, we may terminate your participation in the program."

Like I say many people do it and for the reasons you put forward about videos not being that good for Adsense to which I agree, it certainly isn't worth risking using automated scraping of Youtube videos.

This is not the thread I was thinking of in my last post but it is still a good thread on this very point about Youtube and copyright.
YouTube - Use of Videos

The concensus seems to be that so long as you use the embed code on your site then you are free to use videos from Youtube without fear of copyright infringement.

I have just read and tried to decipher the Youtube policy on "user submissions" i.e. videos and it seems that when you upload a video to Youtube you are granting rights to Youtube to use that submission in any way.

I think therefore that you need not worry about copyright infringement but I am still not sure if this covers scraping of Youtube using software.

Hi Steve.

Congrats on your very open and honest thread.

I have noticed that your site has dropped down to page 3 for 'European Cruises' .

1) How has this effected your traffic the last few days ?

2) Do you think you are been penalised in any way because of different reasons such as age of the domain, big surge of backlinks in a short space of time etc.

Getting your site to the top of google is not difficult using web 2.0 properties, however the difficult part is keeping it up there as web 2.0 techniques are seen as short term gains.

I would love to hear your views of above

Well, it only seems to be the US that it has dropped to page 3, most other countries including the UK and Germany are still on page 1, top 5 even..

1. I have noticed a small drop in traffic as a result but it is all part of the normal Google dance.

2. I don't think it has been penalised but obviously a newer domain is more susceptible to the google dance than older domains. The backlinks are not just from web 2.0 sites that is just one part of the overall promotion strategy.

I don't take anything for granted but I hope and expect it to rise up in the US again. I am mainly concentrating on promoting the blog for other keywords now.

Steve,
(Sorry if I missed it.... I did look...)

What is your strategy re. using articles from ezine etc?

What percentage of the content of your site is not unique? Do you add a paragraph before and after the article to add some unique content? (I did not see that though)

Your site looks absolutely fab, and I love the adsense placement. Too bad we can't discuss CTR.... but this layout outperforms a lot of other layouts, yes?

Best,

Evita

Thanks Steve,

I am new on this forum, but your advice is sound, not like most of the BS ebooks we are constantly bombarded with. SEO and affiliate marketing is a sound means of generating an extra income, and your $50. a day example is a mush more realistic expectation with a lot of hard work, so bravo for being truthful on this subject. It is a full time job getting your site to top, never mind keeping it there, so thanks for the thread and I hope you soon exceed your goals.

Success to all, Mike

My strategy with using articles from Ezine and the other directories is quite simple.

1. The article has to add some value to my blog.
2. The article has to be good and interesting.

I tend to start with a keyword phrase that I want to get some content about and then search the article directories until I find a suitable article.

I do add a paragraph to the start and end and also add a new title but I always make sure the original title is included as a header in the article so I am not breaking any rules. The reason for the new title is so I can ensure my keyword phrase is in the title for SEO purposes.

I do sometimes add articles without doing the steps above though (being lazy I guess) and I have to say I have less luck with getting ranked highly. So it is certainly worth taking the extra steps when using articles from directories.

The layout of the blog and in particular Adsense is the result of me testing various placements, colour schemes, adsense types etc. I demonstrate the technique I use in my free guide to Adsense placement avauilable on my 100 bucks challenge blog. Yes, it does have a good CTR!

I BET CTR is good!!

OK, so you say you don't rank as well when not following those steps. Does that mean you do not use a new title and are looking to rank with the article title? Or, you omit adding a few paragraphs pre/post article and that is what causes you to rank less well for the title you added yourself?

Don't mean to nit pick, just want to be clear
And, what percentage of the content on your blog, more or less, is from article directories?

Thanks for being such a role model for so many!! (And answering all our questions!)

It does average around 50 cents per click, obviously some days are a lot better than others.

For this blog, I do occassionally get a below $10 day still whilst other days it is up over $30. Once the blog started ranking reasonably high for the comepetitive keywords I am sure my site has been a target for some strategic placements as well which certainly boosts the income per click.

As always it is very niche dependent as well what sort of price you get for the clicks. You might find some niches that the competitive keywords have a high cost associated with them and yet a broader related keyword phrase is worth peanuts. This is why your backlinking and on page SEO needs to be good to leave Google no doubt what your content is about.. The trick is to make the content primarily focused on the expensive keywords.
Been following your thread and success everyday. You have been very inspirational to me.

I need to write more articles in Ezine then. Looks like this will help drive more traffice to my blog. Very inspiring.

So Steve, I may have missed it, but what is your Adsense averages daily so far?

My WSO is giving 40% off WOW! There is an affiliate program with it, pays 50%. High quality videos showing step-by-step what to click and what to type in, so easy!

Dear Steve,

Is there any update for the Bootcamp?

BTW, If you have already open the registration,
kindly mention the operation cost per month
which the members have to pay (ex: hosting, other tools ... ) for following your path.
So, the members can prepare the money.

Best Wishes,
Pixel

Steve,
Interesting project. Your niche is going to be European cruises. Well i have lots of articles already written which you could use and edit slightly to avoid duplicate content. PM if you're interested in adding more content.

Hi Pixel, hosting will be required and I can help with some reccomendations if the member does not have hosting already. As for tools, I am building this course so that people can do this using as many free resources as possible. Of course there are always payed tools that might make certain jobs easier but the emphasis will be on using free resources. Any other costs apart from the course itself will be domain costs and thats pretty much it..

It's all moving in the right direction, I will post on my blog when things are almost ready.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for sharing such great content, I discovered this thread this afternoon and had to pull myself away at about the 1000th post. Great stuff. Just curious - do you keep track of how much money you spend to build and promote a site?

Yes I do and it is essential to do this when it comes to bookkeeping and dealing with the taxman.

Hey steve, just wondering if you are able to give an update on your daily average. been following this thread from the beginning, plus i've tried a lot of the techniques explained in this thread. So far so good, off to write an article.

I have a post lined up on my 100 bucks challenge blog with an update to be posted tomorrow. In short I had a day last week where it went over $70 for the day but since then my blog has been in the hands of a google dance and has decreased again. Full report tomorrow.

Sorry, should have been more specific with my question ... I was pretty sure from previous posts that you track financials ... but can you share with us your budget for launching your blog? The total cost of outsourcing and promotion for the first 90 days or so? Thanks again.

Hey Steve

Regarding your site falling down the listings, this is what I was asking about a few days ago . Unfortunately I don't think it has got to do with google dance . There is a lot of talk floating around the net with regards Algorithin changes google have implemented the last 2 weeks or so to sites that are perceived as using bad practises to gain backlinks. There are many other people complaining of the same thing as you, such as dropping far down the serps for their main keywords etc. I sincerely do hope that you site does shoot back up again as you have given many people, including myself a lot of inspiration with this wonderful thread.

I appreciate your concern and I am pleased you found this thread inspirational. Thankfully my site has bounced back onto page 1 of Google again for my target keyword at least in the UK anyway. A few points though..

1. Bad practices with backlinking is not what this thread is about at all. I am trying to demonstrate the right way to get backlinks from good neighbourhoods. This is nothing new by the way, it has been this way with Google for a long time.

2. My concern was specifically about using automated ranking checking software and whether Google can penalise a site for using one. I personally will not be using any software again to check rankings.

3. It is very easy to suffer with Googlenoia and I suffered with it myself earlier this week after seeing the ranking drop. I gave myself a good kick up the arse though and pulled myself together again.

Hi, Steve. I'm from twinmom thread asking you here. Is your report Cash Cow Guide To Adsense Wealth | Adsense coverage what you did in this thread? If your answer, yes. I better buy your ebook other than follow page to page of this long... thread.

Hi Steve,
Great thread. I am curious where you find the pictures that you added to the static page on your site? Is there a website out there that offers these nice clean looking pictures that are allowed to be used as content on anyone website?

Hi exit301,

I'm sure Steve will recommend a few image sites shortly. In the meantime you can check these out:

STOCKXPERT - Royalty free stock photography community
Stock Photography: Search Royalty Free Images & Photos
Royalty Free Photos, Download Stock Photos and Images Stock Photos Royalty Free Downloads

Prices are very affordable.

There are also blog/site building programs such as Artisteer (Steve mentions this program on his blog) that come with stock pictures you can use.

Cheers.
