Follow me to $100 a day in Adsense in 3 months from 1 blog
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

I recieved an email today from somebody who purchased my "cash cow guide to adsense wealth". He wanted me to show him how it is possible to make a $100 a day from adsense from just 1 blog. Not one to shirk away from a challenge, I have decided to show everyone exactly how I will:

1. Take a brand new wordpress blog on a brand new domain
2. Locate a good adsense niche.
3. Conduct some keyword research for my blog theme, article titles and keywords.
4. Find a good WP theme
5. Create some good content for the blog.
6. Make sure my on site SEO is good.
7. Promote my blog properly.
8. Maintain the blog, testing and tracking.

My goal is to have this blog earning at least $100 per day in adsense income in just 3 months time! I want to do this to prove that you do not have to spew up hundreds of rubbish "Made For Adsense" (MFA) sites to make money from adsense. I want to prove that you can do it with a potent mix of:

1. Quality content
2. Some basic on site and off site SEO
3. ACTION!

So, I predict by March 31st 2009 I will be earning $100 per day from this blog.

I will:

1. Endeavour to update this thread every few days with what I am doing or have done to the blog.
2. Any income reports.
3. Use screenshots where possible for proof.
4. Show the niche I am targeting.
5. Answer any questions people may have.
6. Be investing a small amount of money in content creation.

I will not:

1. Reveal the domain name. (It could seriously skew the results if I did)
2. Lie about the income, if the blog flops I will show you (I am confident it won't however).
3. Desert this thread half way through.

My next post will demonstrate the process I go through to find a good niche.

It's the falling flat on my arse part that will be the driving force with this one.

Finding a good adsense niche

The criteria for a good adsense niche is:

1. Has high CPC associated with it.
2. Has low competition.
3. Has plenty of advertisers in adwords.
4. Has plenty of searches in google.

I can use various software tools that I own to help with this part but as I want to demonstrate this to the masses I will use the excellent free google keyword tool to help.

There has been some speculation as to the accuracy of google's tool in respect to number of searches but for me, I generally find it accurate having tested it with some adwords campaigns. It is a great tool for finding number of searches and cost associated with each keyword.

Before we get to this stage I need to decide on the topic of my blog first with half an eye on what are traditionally good adsense paying niches. Broadly speaking, we can say the following topics are traditionally associated with high CPC.

1. Legal
2. Financial
3. Web Hosting
4. Medical
5. Travel and tourism

As a believer in trying as far as we can to create a site about something we might be remotely interested in, I will pick travel and tourism as my starting point.

It is now time to dig into the travel & tourism topic to find a niche that satisfies my other criteria and that I can be interested in creating content for.

I then go to kwbrowse.com and do a number of searches starting with travel and then tourism. On the right pane of kwbrowse after each search is a list of related topics to your main one. I click on some of the topics that kwbrowse shows up and copy paste the results into notepad. At the end I have a long list of travel and tourism related keywords.

Time to open up google keyword tool.. I then paste this list of keywords into the keyword tool and click on "use synonyms". When the results are returned, I sort by "Estimated Avg. CPC" from high to low. I then look down the list looking for four things.

1. High CPC
2. High Searches per month
3. Consistent searches through the year
4. Could I create content for that niche?

I also make sure that my "match type" is set to "exact". This should give an accurate result for each particular phrase.

In my case, I dug down into the cruise vacation niche and was presented with a few possible candidates which fit my criteria laid out. I then made another list with my possible niches on.

The next step is to find out the level of competition for each niche. I do this by typing into google each niche keyword phrase in inverted commas. I then made a note on my list of the number of search results returned. I am looking for anything that has competition of less than 500,000 because I reckon I can nail a page 1 position on google with that level.

While I do this I will also be looking at the quality of sites that fill the top 10 positions on google just to see what I could potentially be up against.

Okay, I have made my decision..

I have decide to go for "European Cruises" for the following reasons..

1. It has a CPC of $6.51 associated with it.
2. It has approximately 6600 searches per month.
3. The search volume is reasonably consistent through the year.
4. The competition is 181,000 in google.
5. I can create content for this niche.

My next post will be how I chose a domain name for it and a WP theme. Until then...

p.s. You don't have to copy the niche I chose, there are literally thousands of them if you do the same research and it only takes about half an hour.

Choosing a Domain and WP Theme

There is a fair bit of discussion on whether domain names should include the main keyword that you are targeting for SEO purposes. I personally believe it is important to get a domain name that reflects the main keyword that you are targeting. If you can get the main keyword as a .com then brilliant but chances are you won't be able to.

I also only consider .com domains or at a push .org and .net I never ever go for .info anymore. It is worth paying extra for a .com.

Having found a good .com domain, I create an account for it on my server and install a wordpress blog on it in the root of the domain. I then go on to find a wordpress theme that looks good, is applicable to european cruises. I might even consider making one myself but in this example where I need to get up and running really quick I will look for a freebie by searching on google for free wordpress themes.

I always make sure that the theme is uncluttered, probably white background and black text, simple looking and low on graphics. I don't want anything to distract from those adsense ads.

There is an amazing piece of software which I might use on this project called artisteer that basically creates some stunning looking wordpress themes. Check it out for yourself.

Mr. Crooks, I love you for what you're currently and about to do.

Be assured that you not only have my utmost respect now (and will have it even tenfold upon your thorough completion and explanation of your progress consistent to how you've been already posting), but will have a very qualified prospect (me) for anything you choose to market/sell in the future.

Steve, have you actually ever created a blog yourself that makes $100 per day or is this your first attempt at doing so? I visited your site and did not see any proof of income or anything that suggests you are successful at what you say you are going to teach. Has Simon or yourself created these money making blogs more than once?

Any way that we can subscribe so when you make a post we are notified or is the best be just to bookmark and check back every so often.

Actually you could just make a blogger blog and put your updates on here and there then those that wanted to could grab the RSS feed (o.k I'm just being lazy, will check back periodically.)

Good Luck!

Yes, I have been earning a good income from adsense since 2004. I used to do the mass site building approach when it worked but was lucky to keep my adsense account due to not knowing what half the content was on my hundreds of crappy sites. Had a couple of warnings from google and then I decided to take all my sites down in one fell swoop. My income dropped to zero overnight.

I have since built up a small network of sites that earn me a good income from adsense which I have basically built using white hat techniques. I don't just earn from adsense, I have a finger in many pies.

On the subject of proof of income, I will never divulge to anyone (except my wife) what I earn from adsense or any other of my online activities. I will of course divulge the results of this case study though. It is very easy to cheat your proof of income and I for one am sick of seeing those fake screenshots on sales pages. The upshot is you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. I choose "don't".

I prefer to let my techniques stand or fall by themselves. They do work but only when mixed with that elusive component which is "action". I am no big time guru or anything like that, just an ordinary bloke who is making a living online now.

Follow this case study and see for yourself whether it works or not.

Priceless stuff !!

Also just curious the keyword you are targetting 'european cruises' , will you just be focusing on this in your content and Articles. Or will you diversify with some other keywords to concentrate on ?

My Chosen Theme

I have decided upon the WP theme I am going to use as you can see it below..

It is only a template no content yet but you get the idea. Simple, clean and no exit points other than internal links, adsense and of course the close button.

The next post will be how I do my niche research..

Niche Research

Before I start my keyword research I need to consider roughly how many pages I will eventually need to create for this blog to get to the $100 a day mark. This needs a bit of mathematics.

Assuming I get on average for this niche $0.50 per click from adsense (could be more, could be less) but I won't know until it is up and running. For $100 that would mean 100 divided by 0.50 = 200 clicks per day on average to get to this level. I will aim for a click through rate (CTR) of about 10% which means I will need 200 x 10 = 2000 visitors to my blog per day.

Now that I have worked out roughly how many visitors I will need to get every day, it is time to work out how many articles I will need to get this level of traffic. It is impossible to know exactly how many people search for various keyword phrases associated with european cruises every day. This is why I tried to get a niche that had a large volume of searches associated with it because this indicates that it is popular among searchers looking for information. It is not until the site is built that I will know for sure what level of traffic there is. All I can say at this stage is that if I create 60 articles for this blog then that means 2000 divided by 60 = 33 visitors per page per day. I reckon this is achievable if I can target highly searched keywords with low competition to get on page 1 of google. It's a tall order but that is the measure of the challenge.

A lot of people at this stage will just fire up a keyword tool and just dig out a lot of keywords to write articles about but this is a mistake in my opinion. It is important now to go and do some research into the niche.

1. Visit forums associated with the niche and make notes of peoples questions and problems.
2. Go to yahoo answers and search for questions on your niche there.
3. search other blogs and article databases to get ideas on what are popular topics in your niche.

The point of this is so that you get a handle on what makes the people in your niche tick, you want them to be interested in the articles you are going to write or get written. My next step is to find some categories for my blog and 60 titles for articles using this process. I don't need to do this all at once, it is something that I can spend a week doing. I can get 10 topics, do some keyword research on each topic and get an article written, rinse and repeat until I get to 60.

I will try and keep half an eye on search and competition numbers for the main keywords associated with each topic but I won't let this rule me at this stage.

Also, another important point is that just because my niche is European cruises it doesn't mean that every article has to include that phrase. The whole point of the research is that I will dig into areas like mediterranean cruises, Italian cruises, Cruises in Scandinavia etc.. I could even go into excursions and how to budget for a european cruise etc.. Eventually my research will uncover a bunch of related topics that will become my categories for the blog. Once done, it is then time to find article titles and some related keywords to be used in each article.

A very interesting thread. I´m also trying to make money with Adsense. My keywords have only very little competiton. Some of them have, when written in quotes, less tan 10 competitors. (the site is in Europe where competition is less) However, even with these keywords it takes quite some time to get indexed and ranked. I´m now ranked on 5 Google pages (the first page) and get about 350 visitors a month. Until now, my adsense income in December is about $6.00.
How long do you think you need for the $100 a day. Since your keywords have much more competiton than mine (it took me 3 month to get where I´m now), how do you intend to get ranked quick?

Well, I will be demonstrating that soon, I don't want to jump the gun just yet but it involves promoting the blog properly. While on the subject I have received a few messages from people asking if this is my way to sell firepow to the masses because it is in my sig. No, I will not be using firepow for this project, even if it would make things easier for me. I will be doing this using as many free resources that I can to prove what is possible when you put the effort in.

Steve, this is awesome, thanks! I am subscribing...

One question, though...if your estimated CPC found in Google Adwords is $6.51, why are you only estimating $0.50 per click in your traffic estimations?

Lets just say I like to be cautious in my estimates, that way I get nice suprises instead of bad ones. Incidentally the $6.51 is purely an indicator, you will probably never get anywhere near that in payout per click.

The price quoted is the cost to get to positions 1 to 3 in adwords for that particular keyword for an advertiser. In reality, that is the cost for getting on google search and a content site is generally less than that anyway. Also when you factor in the cut that google will take out of the revenue and the fact that it's also dependent on which ad is clicked on your site, the reality is your income per click will be a lot less.

Don't let this put you off though, it is still a good idea to chase the big CPC niches. We just have to know exactly what we are dealing with.

Wordpress Categories

It is quite important to organise your blog into themes, so rather than just lump all your articles under just 1 category called "general" or "articles" You need to organise your articles into themes. Google loves a well organised site and one good way to do this is to choose some good categories.

For my European Cruise blog I did the following research:

1. Looked at the top 10 on google for the phrase "European cruises" and noted their categories or themes.
2. Checked out some forums about cruise vacations to see what was hot.
3. Used google's keyword tool and KWbrowse to find some related terms and sub phrases to European cruises.

I ended up choosing 7 different categories for my WP blog based on this research.

Now that I have my categories I can dig into each category to see what people are talking about and need questions answered about in that particular category. I will aim to turn these questions into article titles. More on that in my next post...

I love this thread! Shoot for the moon and you might reach the stars. Even if you "fail" ( which I dont think will happen) and only make $50/a day that's awesome. I love big goals. I wish you the very best and Im going to follow along very closely.

Hey steve unless I missed it you may want to also add to your planning the use of Google trends and google insight to see if your specified market's traffic is seasonal or cyclical in nature.

I just checked it "European cruises" and it is definitely seasonal in nature. The traffic has a spike at the beginning of the year and then dips for the rest of the year.

You can also use google insight to determine any known demographics that you can then use for posting and/or article marketing traffic generation techniques. Google insight will also let you know the most searched for terms AND where they came from.

Awesome idea. I encourage you to do everything humanly possible to achieve this noble goal. I love google adsense cash. And following your thread can shoot my earnings up too.

Who says you can't? After all, Thomas Edison was never thought he could achieve his discovery of all centuries!

Awesome post Steve, I'm finding this really interesting and will be staying subscribed while you attempt this. Will you be posting updates of daily adsense revenue at regular intervals as you go? Once the site goes live of course.

Cheers,

Carl.

You have made some good points about spotting trends and this would probably be worth factoring into the planning stage. There comes a time when the analysis has to stop and the action begins. I could probably find a million reasons not to pursue a niche if I looked hard enough.

At the end of the day if I can get this blog to the $100 a day level and then the income drops to $50 during the off-season then that is still $50 a day more than if I hadn't gone into this niche. I will just have to build another blog that is seasonal!

Hi Carl, yes I will be posting screenshots (within google's rules of course) at regular intervals, I don't know about daily but certainly regularly. I will probably create a blog just to keep track of these updates and so I won't be wasting the warrior server's bandwidth with image files.

Happy New Year everyone! Thanks for all the encouragement and I hope we all have a happy, prosperous and above all, healthy new year!

There is a lot of negative stuff going on in the news at the moment, try hard not to let it get to you. A bit of positive action in the new year will turn you into a good news story!

Steve,
I so like your line of thinking

Did you end up using artisteer? I looked into it, but after asking some questions of the developers, wasn't to sure that they even understood my qurestions, so never pursued it.

I'd be interested in some more details about
the blog theme and ad placements etc.

Are you keeping a blog "look" with dated posts etc. or are you going more for the look of a static site?

Your aim for a 10% CTR, isn't that a bit low? or you are just aiming low to get nice surprises??

Thanks for making your quest something we all can learn from.

Hi Evita,

I did end up using artisteer on this only because it is so easy to create a clean looking blog.

The ad placements will be a simple banner above and below each post and a sidebar. Of course ensuring that it never goes over the 3 per page rule.

It will look a bit more like a static html site but it will behave like a normal dynamic blog except for a static home page. More about this when I get to it in a later post.

A 10% CTR is about right in my opinion for a site that isn't specifically made for adsense. I have had sites in the past that had CTR of 25% and more but when you get to these levels I am sure it must raise big red flags with google. They surely must feel that if 25% of the visitors are clicking the adsense ads then it is probably MFA. A 10% CTR will surely fly under that radar.

Best of luck to you....

Have to say though... I don't see how you can attack "hundreds of MFA sites"... because how I see it, your blog will be made for Adsense itself. The reason why you are making the blog is to make money, which is not the same as creating a unique blog for the good of the web.

Ahhh, Thanks Crooks, this is by far the most useful and brilliant idea + thread I have found here on warrior forum!

Good luck to you! I'm definitely following you in this path!

1. Global Movies Database = $489.95 = 1.5 GB data + 65.9 GB images.

2. World Hotels Database = $589.95 = 1.54 GB data + 71.4 GB images.

3. Auto Parts Database = $489.95 = 15.8 GB data + 30.4 GB images.

Good point Ryan and by definition you are right I guess.. Although my purpose for building is to make $100 a day from adsense, the only reason I am confident of making that income is because I will build a quality site. That is a fundamental difference, MFA refers to sites thrown up with crap content that use gimmicks to get people to click on ads.
