So I Add Content and Traffic Surges

Right now I only have one site running, started on the beginning of May, so it's a fairly new site. Since I'm so new to internet marketing I'm making it may goal to use this website to get used to how google works as well as test it. One of these tests was to add content at a very fast pace (1 article/day), then I did 1 article/week, and then I stopped posting entirely.

What I found was that nothing happened to my site's traffic after I stopped posting and thought it was great! But then three days ago I saw a HUGE decline in traffic, about 50% of what I'm used to. I got scared after two days of poor results so I added a new post and my site's traffic went up to it's usual amount of 30 uniques/day.

What I'm wondering is what the true cause of this was. Was it because my site is new, and that it must be updated to maintain rankings and traffic or was it actually because I didn't add new content. Since I have little experience in the subject matter, I just want some of your guys' experience. I'm asking this because I want to know if I have to CONSTANTLY be adding content to my site to see it succeed, even after it's aged.

P.S- Just wanted to do a little thank you to the forum. Like I said, I started in the beginning of May and so far, for June my site has made $11.48! I don't think I could get to this point without any warrior support.

A website with fresh/regularly updated content is more relevant in the eyes of the search engines than one without it, so adding more content can definitely have a positive effect.

Does anyone have a tested and proven amount of content that has to be added? Like 1 article/day, 2 article/week, etc.
