Hello everyone, I started a niche site on casual dress shoes about 2 months ago. I have changed some of the features such as removing the slider (header) image, and changing the ad placement, but my CTR is still relatively low. The site is Casual Dress Shoes News-Your Casual Dress Shoes Resource The site currently gets about 30 unique visits from the search engines per day, and I would like to take some time to improve my CTR. Whether you are a guru or a newbie, please take a few moments to look at the site and give me any tips to improve the CTR or improve the site in general. I would be forever grateful, and your comments/criticisms are golden in my eyes. Please help me to succeed in internet marketing, I could really use your help!. Thanks in advance everyone, Michael |

Hey Michael, I would suggest sacrificing one of the AdSense blocks on the top of the page. So far it may seem to your visitors that the website was created with solely AdSense in mind, and thus be not very appealing.

you can not expect to much from 30 visitors/day. No matter how big is your CTR, thiss is not much traffic to get something from.

You could also try a horizontal banner in the middle of your content instead of that banner you've got on the left hand side...that doesn't look good. You can also try adjusting your ad colours. At the moment they might stick out too much and look too much like advertising. Try get them to match the same colour as the other links on your site. Hope that helps, Pete

I'm fan of the 336x280 under the header. I've been playing with having it on its own under the header and then embedded within the text to the left or right like you have. Don't know if you have tried having the box not wrapped in the text. One of the best example of blending ads in content I have ever seen is from ScienceDaily.com who is mentioned as a success story by adsense. I drew an arrow on the ad example. I would love to know their CTR. |

Those ads at sciencedaily look ridiculously blended. I have used ads with the same color as my website text for about a day but I kept getting mixed opinions so I switched it back to the current color. I dont think that 30 visits/day is enough to really perform any split testing with ads, so I just wanted to execute some of the tips that people on the forum are providing me with. ThankS!

| Just an update! I have changed the ad that wide skyscraper ad that was showing on the left hand side of the articles towards the middle to the popular leaderboard. I took a look into my adsense account and realized that the wide skyscraper was having a horrible CTR, so i figured that I might as well change it up. In addition, I found out that the think text links at the top perform absolutely amazing! Do you guys think that the think links perform amazing because of their placement? or simply because they are text links? |

Look 30 visitors per day IS enough to make a little something. If you see my blog, the ads may not look to be placed very well but my CTR is still relatively high. And a brilliant little tip would be to look at this: google adsense support > one click optimizer (thing with a light bulb next to it)> find your site niche in there ( I would put a link but I can't yet :P) If you just find the one which relates to your site best, it gives you the optimum ad placements |

Do you guys realize that only about 1% of unique visitor website traffic convert to ads. Video are a little higher, about 15-30%. A site with 25,000 unique visitors will get about 250 ad clicks which is why you need large amounts of traffic to really see something substantial. Banner ads are not what they used to be. Using that formula you can estimate your conversion based on your traffic. Here is a little reading: The New Media Ad Model You can also research banner ad conversion rates and video ad conversion rates. Yes, we know SEO but we must also understand trends, business, ad models & statistics. |

@rollmodl....I know that banner ads arent what they used to be but my CTR is way higher than 1%! LOL i know that I said that it was low, but 1% for a niche site is VERRRYYY low. My cousin has a CTR that consistently soars over 1/10th of the visitors clicking on banner ads....he's living proof.

I'm not saying it applies to everyone. Of course there are exceptions. It's just the general rule of thumb.

Try to put your ad below the title . Test it . Make also sure to test another theme. |
