Default Local SEO: Multiple locations and NAP

Should you be consistent across business directories and only choose one of your business locations or should you have an equal effort in both and split up the NAP?

From what I've heard you want to have your details the same all over the web. This will help create citations back to your places page. Still getting into Local SEO though, but this is what I've seen time and time again from doing a lot of reading on it.

So if you have two Places pages for your two locations, you should neglect one of the them then? Is that what you're saying?

Each location is treated separately by Google - Each location will have it's own Google Places Page as well. This can also be handled in one account within Google Places. This is where the NAP comes in and you will need separate citations for each of the business to be successful.
The map and coordinates will help separate this for you as well, what I like to do is add the pictures to panaramio and flikr (these two sites allow you to add GEO targets to the Location within the picture)

So if you already have two Places pages established, one for each business location, you would then need to split up your backlink building efforts, so as to promote each Places page equally (or however you see fit).

In other words, you would NOT want to be consistent across the web for your brand since you are building backlinks for two locations.

Is this correct?
