Default I wanna know this guy's secret...

In my search for blogs to post comments on about transcription, I came across a blog that's a PR2, Alexa rank just under 400K ... and there's been no recent posts on it for ... SEVEN YEARS.

Emergency Cash Generators

I'm guessing it's just the age of the blog at this point that's keeping it "alive?" Maybe it's back links and directories it's listed in?

Interesting...

I had a site that hadn't had new content in five years and for which I did no promoting in five years and it was a PR3.

Probably a combination of factors. But one thing that is certain...search engines ABSOLUTELY FREAKING LOVE aged domains.

Part of the reason for this is, you can't fake it. They know how long a site has been floating around in their systems.

The secret is... PageRank is meaningless.

You don't really have to frequently update a site for it to be successful. I've seen sites that haven't been updated in years holding a PR4 and up with top 10 rankings for very competitive keywords.

The search engines certainly favor older domains, that is why these sell so well in the domains market.

The secret is that they are aged domains and also that they had value back when they were posting and the value has continued to date.

Crazy stuff!! Does it even matter if people are still visiting the site? It never fails to mind-boggle me the way the internet works... there are so many layers.

I guess "getting old" has its advantages when you're a website.

I know; I leave any of my sites sit for even a month and they start losing traction. In fact, I lost my PR2 on one of my most visited pages of one of my sites! Totally ticked me off.

Aged domains, definantly play a factor, but you have to look at all the variables. The site might be highly optimized, and have some really strong high page rank backlinks. Which in turn make's their page rank higher.

Just the other day I saw a Wordpress plugin called (I think) Old Post Promoter, which made a lot of sense to me for some blogs. It takes old posts and changes the date on them so they appear at the top of your blog.

If your stuff is timeless prose, that's one way you could leave a blog lying fallow.

Oh, that's really a cool idea! I guess too if you don't have affiliate links on there that might be outdated or links that go to defunct websites it's a good tool to have.
