Hi I am new to SEO and I am trying to figure out all the best Free backlinking/Seo strategies. Below are a list of what I am doing now. If I missed something or you have another strategy..feel free to give your 2 cents.

1.Create original content for your blog/money site
2.Create a Link wheel from web 2.0 sites and link back to main site for select keywords.
2.Submit your content and write articles for article directories, free syndication sites, guest blogs..ect.
3. Submit content to press releases
4. Use google footprints to find places to comment on blogs, do link exchanges, do forum posts, ect..
5. social bookmark your site and link wheel with free services like social monkee
6. create ebooks and submit to high ebook directories
7. create widgets and submit to widget directories
8. gather links created and submit to high RSS directories
9. ping all links and rss feeds.

are there any better or faster methods out there that are free?

Whats the difference between article submission and directory submission?

I thought they are 'article directories'?

High PR blog comments and article submissions are good in my opinion. There are also free trials of usually paid software like SENUKE and Article Marketing Robot that you can use for free for a limited time.

Here are few methods you can explore

- Combine your site content and make small tutorial and submit to massive tutorial distribution sites (Search google for such sites)
-Convert your content into powerpoint slides and submit to slide-sharing sites
-use blog carnivals to drive targeted traffic

Sometimes, it depends upon the keyword you're targeting. If you have some heavy competition on the 1st of Google, then you have to fight a lot for the position.

If you have analysed the keywords competition (ex. Market Samurai) and found very low backlinks for the targeted keywords, then few quality backlinks is far enough to get on 1st page.

Keyword research is the most important factor and decides how much backlinks you need to rank on search engines.

For better or worse, I like going after keywords that I know will bring in a flood of traffic. I go after them from the word go. And I know I have marathon of fight in front of me. The thing is, though, the experience of that lets you know just about every strategy that is out there for ranking a site. Once you secure one of these keywords for the first time, you'll have fought such a hard battle that it won't be very likely you'll rest on your laurels and just allow that site to sit ... because there is always competition. And the first time will be the hardest. That's the good news. What is learned from this experience will also give the confidence to go after any keyword that will bring in a ton of traffic and sales. At least that is my thinking.

There are web directories like DMOZ and article submission directories like Ezinearticles. One is for submitting website's urls, the other is for submitting articles.

I think the best way is build your own blogs with original and interesting content.
