Hi, The subject says it all. I have read stuff where people have said that backlinking relevance is vital otherwise Google will kick your a$$, and other people say that that is simply not the case otherwise you could damage your competition over time. I am about to embark on ranking some Amazon money blogs and want them to hang around for the long term. Can someone please enlighten me as to whether I should be building relevant only backlinks? Thanks. |

i think a backlink is a backlink, it doesn't matter if it's a nofollow or dofollow, but high PR, .edu, .gov are the ones that will get you to first page of G

This couldn't be farther from the truth. Of course we'll have people that say otherwise on here but if Google would kick your a** as a result of not having relevant links than SEO would be a wild wild west type of setting where competitors would just spam non relevant links to their competitor. At the end of the day, a relevant link will HELP more than a non-relevant link but don't kill yourself trying to build only highly relevant links. |

Backlinks from relevant sites, incontext with appropriate anchor text links are probably the best And if you can get them from high traffic sites, even better. Some backlinks, like those from unrelated forum profiles, don't count so much. But say for instance, if a person runs a blog about baby gifts and adds a link to your birdbath site because he also likes birds, there is no reason for your site to be penalized becasue of that. |

I think it helps if you have relevant links, but not enough for it to be something to worry about. Just get the links wherever you can and you should be fine.

If you have a lot of unrelevant links, this will make adding relevant links less powerful.

Relevant backlinks help alot. If you are currently ranking #11 for your keyword and you bought the site ranking #15. Then you offer a backlink from your #15 site to your #11 site, what do you expect? #11 moves up. How do I know? Yup, I bought that site, of course ![]() Haruka |
