Default My thoughts on Page Rank

I have heard a tonne of people who think their sites will now rank higher due to their new found PR. If I understand correctly PR is just a measure, it doesn't actually affect your site at all

It's like saying this baby now weighs 10 pounds because I weighed it, but before it weighed 0 pounds

PR is a measure of incoming links and their quality

Quote:
PageRank, a technology that determined the “importance” of a webpage by looking at what other pages link to it, as well as other data
This means if you get a tonne of awesome links your site will rank better, when the next pagerank update comes it is simply a reflection of how many more quality links your site has

I think page rank is for our amusement only now. What really accounts for SERPs is trust rank, which is hidden.

Hi Jeremy,

The real PageRank used for ranking is updated many times each day. The Toolbar export data has absolutely no direct effect on rankings.Their PR didn't sudden change today, it has been changing all along.

Additionally, your page's PR has no direct impact on your rankings, it is used to weight the value of your outgoing links.

PageRank is simply an indicator of the type of links a website has received. The update we just saw last night is really PR from a few months ago, maybe even longer.

PageRank isn't everything but it does help you gauge the type of links that a website has received.

Do this experiment:

Place ANY text on your website.

Put the same text in your city on Craigslist (mine has a PR7)

wait 24 hours. do a google search for the text you posted. I can guarantee where you'll find it.

I wouldn't guarantee that too quickly. I could find 10 scraper sites tonight that regurgitate Craigslist crap.. all with a page rank of 0, that would come up in the searches before the original ad on Craigslist. I see them all the time when searching.

I dont think that The PR of your pages have something to do with the rank your SERPs. But, the PR of offsite pages in which you have dofollow backlinks, does have its way on the SERPs rank of the anchor text used on those backlinks. I've got a site with a homepage of PR5, and I dominate ton of terms that you can consider as high competitive.

Page rank is useless. I have a blog that is all original, has been a Pr2 for a long time now, and after checking today it dropped to 0. This is one of the few sites that has had no backlinks, or anything done to it. So gogles pr means nothing in my eyes. Nothing but a big irratent.

Wow checking another legit site, went from a Pr4 to a pr1, now that pisses me off. Something is completely wrong with Google.

Page rank does make a difference with the sites they link to.

For example, if you create two new sites with the same/similar content and for one of them have a link from a PR0 site and the other a link from a PR6 site.

I'll leave it to you to work out which one will rank better.

Couldn't care less about pagerank but it's fun coming here and watching people go "whoppee pagerank updated!" when really it doesn't mean bugger all.......did your sales improve because of pagerank?......did you get more traffic because of the update?......no.......i'll take a PR0 site with traffic over a PR4 site any day.....

Now I'm going to see if any of my sites increased their pagerank.........NOT!

Keywords ranking is more important in terms of business. When you 'll get any competitive keyword for your site in top position in Google you can expect to get some potential customers to your site. Page rank is nothing but a value that basically depends upon number and type of quality backlinks you'll get for your site. So you can't say that page rank is totally valueless, but keywords ranking is more important!

This is true. A high PR doesn't necessarily mean higher rankings.
