WP email "opt-in" plugin

Hello warriors,

I hate to say it but I often "X" out of email opt-ins when visiting websites

I know there are some that seem to "pop from the bottom" and stay there with a <<< or >>> (except vertically rather than horizontally) that allows you to "hide" the opt in, are those "free plugins"?

and a second question, if I don't have aweber, do I have have to use some other client that interfaces with an opt in, in order to actually collect email address?

(I'm green when it comes to email lists!)
