Are there any specific ways to promote niche specific questions and answers sites?

Do you mean sites similar to Yahoo Answers, LinkedIn Answers, HubPages Answers? No, I don't think there are any specific way to do that - common-sense IM will do the job. Anyway, before you start, do competition research - it appear the niche is quite full and dominated by a couple of "giants".
