I have a well established exact match .com domain name. It has been active for about two years and it does well on its own. Lets just say that it is bluefishingpoles dot com Here is my question. I recently purchased the exact match dot net version of the same domain. bluefishingpoles dot net It was a competitors and they developed a site very much like my dot com. They have done some backlinking as well. So now I have my dot com version and my competitors dot net version. What would be the better choice, develop the dot net version as a seperate site in the same niche, or 301 redirect the whole dot net version to my well established dot com version? Thanks! |

If the site was set up by a competitor and they did ok, then chances are it has traffic. If your site converts very well, then help guide some traffic over to yours. However in the long term, I would definately build up the .net site to be a good rival to the .com. Use different content, but relative and you could end up with a few top 10 listings. It pays to be your own closest rival for sure. Dont host the 2 sites on the same servers. It will help if they have totally different IP addresses. I wish you all the best. |
