Default what should be on the front page of my wordpress?

Hi. I am building an authority site for a small niche covering several relevant subjects and basically I keep writing articles so my front page is always different. Of course if people from subject 2 come to my website and see right in front an article from subject 1 they may bounce away as it is not relevant to them. So what should be on my front page so I can cater to all the several subjects I cover?
(I have been thinking to put a sitemap as front page but havent found a visually pleasing wordpress plugin - is that a good idea? (I already have a sitemap as a page in the menu)

There's no need to always deliver your article readers to your front page. In fact, if they are coming from links in your article then why not send them directly to the original article on your site. Create a shorter slightly different version for distribution and a link to read the full version on your site. When viewing any article on your site, the visitor should be able to also view links to related articles. (e.g. WordPress › Search for related posts « WordPress Plugins )

As for your front page, you can create a static front page or simply display summaries of your articles. The summaries can be displayed in some sort of chronological order or random order (e.g. WordPress › Search for random post summaries « WordPress Plugins). You could also put a "featured post" on your front page. This could be your latest post or your most popular post. (e.g. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=featured+post&sort=)
