Span tag, bold, italics

Does the span tag help with SEO, coloring a keyword rich phrase or sentence, highlighting it, say, in yellow? What about bold and italics?

Maybe in the 90's but i'm pretty sure it has not much value for SEO now. It does have a big impact for user experience which is just best practice.
