How do you "ping"?

pinging CAN be safe. If you use pinging services that don't use schedulers you risk all of you links being found at once wich can get you sandboxed. Pinging services like linklicious.me with schedulers allow you to drip out at a rate you choose so that you can safely create backlinks and ping them.

Not to mention using linklicious gets you credit at onehourbacklinks so that you can get FREE back links.

Pinging is not BlueFart and won't do any harm and if you're using wordpress and have the right plugins you will be pinging anyway.

The best way to get a link noticed is obviously with a paid service such as linklicious or backlink booster, but my favourite free tool is right here: Profit Instruments: Quick Index Tool

I don't think you've got that right. If that was the case then someone could just build a load of links to their competitors site, then ping them all to get them sandboxed.

I just tried out the PingFarm and it's been pinging for the last 10 min. it's hitting close to 500 pings now! Seems a little spammy to me.. Anyone else tried this service?

Of course you could, and they WOULD get sandboxed...and then they would eventually come back higher in SERPS. Attacking a competitor buy building a bunch of links is like attacking an enemy with an army of vampires....sure, it will kill them...for awhile...but then they are just going to come back the dead too, stronger than ever.
