I was just wondering, how do you "ping" something, I know how to social book mark, but not to ping. Could someone please explain this?

Pinging is safe for sure. There's nothing Black hatty about it.

If you're using WP, there's built-in pinging whenever you publish.

Pingler is also another option to consider.

Well if you build backlinks and notice that they are not getting indexed then you ping the search engines and they will update your URL. That is the main basis of pinging a URL.

I've had better luck running my links through a service like backlinksindexer.com, it does cost a little money but almost all of my links end up getting indexed by Google. I was never able to get close to the same results when I would simply just ping my backlinks.

You can use linklicious.me to ping your links for you. Its as easy as 3 clicks. Alot of the services here will ping your links ONCE. The problem with that is that sometimes it takes 2 or 3 pings to get your links crawled...sometimes as high as 6 or 7 pings to get them crawled.

There are a bunch of ways. Don't stop at ping. Do RSS. Build backlinks to backlinks. Your objective here is not really the ping, it is to get your links crawled and indexed. Use linklicious. Use blog networks or blog comments to build links to your links (blog comments are good for this).

Build multi-tier links such as second tier article links and second tier profile links.

You want to be crawled multiple times, so place multiple invitations on the web for the bots to come and visit you.
