Ok friends i have a question, does an old blogspot blog rank higer than a new .com domain??? i have a .blogspot blog that i made in 2008, and made few posts on it in 2009... so now i wanted to work on that blog, more specifically on that NICHE, so i was thinking about getting a .com domain .... Still i was wondering if i do the linkbuilding on my blogspot blog, will it rank higher (because that blog is almost 3-4 years old and still indexed in google) or should i go with a .com domain.

Never put anything important on a domain that you don't control. Blogspot could close tomorrow, where would you be then? With rare exceptions, Blogspot blogs should be just used as feeder sites.

Sounds like you don't much invested in that blog. I'd put the site on a .com so you own the real estate so to speak. Might be a different story if you had 1,000 posts and 5 million links or something. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

You could have that blogspot domain now, but you don't own it as Google owns it. Get yourself a .com and be in full control. |

Never depend on a platform or domain you cannot control... Rich is right... there's a lot of news out there telling that Google closes some of their blogspot and etc. This is also the main reason I shifted from blogspot to self hosted wordpress =)

With anything you're going to invest time into, as recommended, get your own piece of realestate. you can do more with it and be in control. Hosting isn't that much these days and you can get a great deal if you shop around! |

As mentioned, don't use blogspot blogs since you can't 'own' them. Any changes to their policy "i.e. nothing commercial" and you're dead meat.

Buy a .com domain. Install your existing blogspot blog on it by using Blooger's 'custom domain' feature. That way you own the .com domain, while Google pays for your hosting.

Domain age is irrelevant. Link age is what's important.

I'm with you on that domain age thing...a new wrinkle with link age. That's good! Since you haven't done shinola with the blog in 2 years or so, the point is moot. Use the blogspot in conjunction with a dot com. (any links would probably be deep sixed by now) I think it's pretty crazy people talking about being banned on blogspot. I don't know what you people are doing with your blogs, but I am under no such fear. Mine rock. What's even funnier is that your host could pull the plug on you anytime... for less stuff than google...are you shaking in your boots over your host pulling the plug? Be afraid. Paul |

Been too many cases of people violating (unintentionally) the TOS for sites like wordpress.com, Blogger etc and loosing their entire site. At least if you host the content yourself, you can easily move it (assuming you don't have the domain controlled by the web hosting service) in the unlikely effect something bad happens that shuts down your site. |

| Totally agree with you. I've seen many warriors whom were so entrenched and worried about competitors with aged domain on Page 1. There are many factors which you could leverage to beat them out of the ranking - On Page and Off Page. |

I think you should go for .com domain. Reasons? 1. Domain age will not impact your rankings, no matter it is indexed. You new domain will get indexed soon with right strategies. 2. Blogspot is Google's domain, as everyone is saying you have very less control over this domain. |
