Default Costly Link Building Mistakes

1. Check if back links have a “no follow” attribute
2. Getting good quality links but with useless anchor texts
3. Getting an image link (when a text link with keyword is possible)
4. Not using ALT text if image link is the only possibility
5. Getting back links from irrelevant websites
6. Getting back links from sites/pages with tons of links
7. Links from pages spiders can't crawl
8. Explicitly selling links
9. Linking to sites with poor reputation
10. Linking to good sites gone bad

Some of those make sense and are pretty self-evident. I don't see it as at all costly to mix some No Follow among the Do Follow. Its more natural looking that way. Also nothing wrong with Do Follow from irrelevant sites. You still get the link juice and the "irrelevant" people there include potential customers.

And for the bit about sites with lots of links, even better if that means you can get in an early comment on a site that generates lots of discussion where more people will read it, meaning more traffic on top of the link juice.

Take /.com. Thousands of links (to understate it) but the holy grail for those who've gotten a link back from /.com because it got posted or reviewed there. They are well known for sending so much traffic that they've shut down the servers from the sudden flood of it.

Someone's been giving you some dubious advice. One of the better pieces of advice I got here was that sometimes in IM it is necessary to raise your gaze a little higher than IM.

I'd always be wary when it comes to number 9 and 10.
I think linking out to poor quality sites definitely can hurt your own. Because if I linked out to these kind of sites, Google will definitely see it as my own fault.

I also agree with u. Above mistake in link building, u cost more. Because for link building u already invested your valuable time. After that those back links get, that also not so useful.

I don't agree with the first point- Getting a no-follow link is not a mistake, remember getting a link from articlesbase.com which is a pr6 nofollow directory. You can get a lots of visitors this way.A mix of both do-follow and no-follow is the correct way to go.
