I have a few questions:
How much did you pay to get those articles written for you? I've always done my own writing, but now I'm curious to see how much it would cost to outsource.

Am I correct in assuming you took the articles and without retouching them submitted to 20 directories? As well as having the same content on your blog? I was told a few times here and there that so much duplicate content like this is a big honking no-no to google. ?

BTW, very nice job and I'll keep following your progress.

edit: forget the question about what is on the blog, I just read back and saw that it's not the same stuff on your blogs :-)

ok, ready for the rabbit trail? What is the general opinion on WP MU? I am looking for someone with more technical confidence than I who would be willing to install WP MU for a SMALL fee on my domain hosted with go daddy. Any takers? I am interested in knowing if Ivancho or anyone else has tried anything with MU and if so, what worked?

Thank you for the share. Really helpful. honestly traffic is my weakest link. your post help me a lot.

I've few questions though, hopefully you can clarify.

1) how do you come up with the niche for the blog. is it based on top key word or are you targetting for the long tail?

2) for the articles topics, do you use only long tail or just any keyword from the niche?

thanks in advance

Ivancho, congratulations for your success and your excellent post.
:-)

Some people stated above that a site would vanish in google (or lose it's good ranking) if it isn't updated regularly.

This is not true. It's a myth.

I have sites where I rank on SERP #1 since 2003 and I rarely update more than the year of copyright.

While most people declare blogs+plus regular updates to be the holy grail of SEO, they're missing out on important opportunities. There's more to SEO than fresh blog content.

I have to agree with this, even though so many people tell me to expect to get buried after initial success. I essentially did what the OP is doing now over a year ago - I was number 1 in my phrase match but since it wasn't pulling in enough profit for me I stopped updating the blog completely as of December 2007. It's still ranking exactly the same and it is a pretty competitive niche.

I have to agree. I have a site which I hadn't updated for years and it has remained at the top of several competitive keywords.

I only started improving the content and doing some promotion when I decided to tackle some related keywords where I believed I could rank better. I also noticed frequent visitors from one of the keyword spy services, so thought it would be advantageous to do a little promotional support.

As a result, that site is still well-placed despite opposition and my traffic has doubled.

Ivan

Ivancho - James (back a page or so ago) was offering some serious gold for you as well, should you want to really increase traffic and potential rss subscribers. The text to speech for use with an Ipod, Mp3, e.t.c... is a potential windfall of new traffic.

You have had such good luck by submitting directories and posting articles, if you were to get a little more agressive social bookmarking and utilize audio on your site - well it could be off the charts cool. :-) Just my 0.02 cents.

BTW James, everything you said in your post here is sheer brilliance and I'm off to incorporate it all in a few of my blogs.

At any rate, it's inspiring to see this working for you Ivancho. Keep us posted.

Well I done a research via google. I was looking for a product, that I wanted and decide to bloging about this niche which this product was related to. I cant say it is the top keyword but is very competitive.

Any keyword for the niche.

Hope this helps.

Congratulations but beware the massive traffic surge and high keyword ranking could be a fluke.

For some reason Google like to give my new websites a page rank of 1 sometimes 2 for the first few weeks with only a few backlinks and if I catch the PR update. I used to get excited but quickly realised this isn't the norm and like clockwork they go back to the correct PR0 within a week or so.

Again this is just a FYI bro.

In fact, has anyone else noticed this lol?

If he loses backlinks his site will lose Page Rank which will affect his positioning and therefore his income.

So you're right in he doesn't have to update the website but the outside SEO part does have to be fresh and constant.

Have a look at google to find more information about search rankings and page rankings.

Page Rank has nothing to do with search rankings????

This forum (Warrior) has great Page Rank (around 4 I think), you create a title with 123456 here and I'll do the same at my marketing forum (Page Rank 2) and I'll guarantee you the Warrior forum will show higher than mine for the term 123456.

Alas your success has everything to do with both Page Rank and search rank. If the directories lose Page Rank your article will be lower in the search ranks thus resulting in fewer visitors and less sales.

I didn't mean to rain on your parade and I seriously wish you the best of luck. I just didn't want you quitting your job or anything some time soon lol in case big-G does another funny turn like they do with me.

OK good luck.

Sorry I dont agree here, This is all depending from the quality inboord links that site has and how google love the site.

I have got a site which is PR7 and i got nearlly 100k backlinks to it but guest what other site with PR3 and 30k backlinks is ranking higher than me.

And guest what I know why my site is not ranking high that his, its because of the quality of the backlinks

That's great to know because its exactly what I am doing, and making some money, and I think I just need to keep doing it until I get the right niche for a "hit" like this. Thanks for sharing that's a huge confirmation for me.

You're right. Search rankings and page rank are not the same. Most people want good Page Rank because a lot of High PR sites are also high in the search engines. Also, high PR sites often get a great deal of respect. But those two things are not the same.

Ivan,

Quick thought to make some quick cash. There is obviously a lot of interest here on what you did, and obviously you don't want to give away the niche. but why don't you write a report based on a generic niche and give people step by step breakdown of what you did including all the links to the directories, and bookmarking sites, your breakdown on articles and such and then offer the report here for $7-12 dollars?

You have everybody chompin at the bit...take advantage of the interest.

I am sure it would be a hit and a chance to pick up some quick cash....

Barry

Ivancho,

Congrads on your success, and keep up the good work. But if I was you I would follow Barry's advice and strike when the oven is hot. Many people are interested with your systematic approach. Also, I going to let you in on a little secret that most internet marketers know and that is:

You could provide the entire step by step process how you made money on your niche, and I would dare to say 80-85% of the people who bought your WSO would probably barely or never use your techniques.

The reason for this is that most people refuse to put the work in following the process, because it takes consistent action to be successful. Most people will just file it away, and just wait for the next infomational product to show up that strikes their interest.

Believe me I know from experience and spent money for years on info products waiting on that ultimate product, tool, or ebook!! Until I realized i was the problem why I wasn't successful, and started to do something about.

As I'm reading this post, I see I went a little bit off on a tangent, but all in all you provide us with some great methods to start off with. You should continue that with a detailed report.

Hey maybe it will be the ultimate report I've been searching for!!

Sure I know, the thing is I dont really want to share my blog URL or anyof my website URL, simply because their are many .... thease days that goes and click on adsense for example and all this nasty stuff. I don't really mind sharing the niche if I do a WSO, my problem is sharing my websites URL...

Ivancho,

Do you think posting 20-30 web directories a day is a bit much. I mean that is a lot of inbound links coming to your site each day. What is your opinion on just doing 10 a day and spreading it out over a longer time period?

I would say yes is too much, but if you doing in the right order and google don't get your site as a spam then is no problem. I actually mean you need to do it in the right order example: submit your website to 20-30 directories every day for 1 week, then stop and wait for other week and do the same .

Hope you get the IDEA...

Google wont penalize your site for the amount of back-links you get but
rather the consistency. Some authority sites gain thousands of back-links
per day and do just fine.

The best way to stay safe with google is consistency...If you gain 50
back-links today, make sure you gain 50 more tomorrow and so on.

The only time you may have a problem is if you gain 500 back-links one
day and 5 the next day and the next week because this looks unnatural.

Just try and stay as consistent as possible and dont over use social
bookmarking sites or directory's ect...Generate back-links from many
sources.

How many backlinks do think that Matt Drudge got in one day when his Drudge Report broke the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal? I can guarantee, it was a whole LOT more than 20-30 sites.

It's when you get thousands and thousands of "relevant" links of the same type in one day that causes the red flag with Google. 20-30 won't hurt you.
