"contact us" page ranks higher than my home page? Help!

My site is now around 1 month old, and on page 1 for a local keyword. I also have a few keywords that is ranking pretty high, page 2 and 3 etc.

Now, the problem is that Google is picking up my "contact us" page and not my home page. I have no idea whats going on with that. My contact us page only have a map (simplemap plugin for wordpress) and my contact information. Nothing else.

While my home page is a blog, contents are updated every week. It is indexed but not ranked at all.

What are your views on this guys? Please help!

Can't tell what is going on with such limited information but might your contact page have more local geographic information related to your local keywords?

Yeah. That is true.
My contact us page have listed a few local geographic locations.

But what should I do at this point to get my homepage going instead of my homepage? Do you recommend redirecting my 'contact us' page to my homepage instead (301)?

This has happened to me before. Just keep backlinking to your homepage and give it time. Eventually it will outrank it.

The funny thing is, i have never done any backlinking to 'contact us' page.
it just ranks higher than all my other pages naturally.

In fact, I have been using scrapebox, article submission, SEnuke etc. for my homepage, but didnt receive any positive outcomes. It simply helped my 'contact us' page ranking higher and higher.

Your site is new. Wait for things to settle down and your homepage will eventually outrank it.

Build backlinks to increase it further.

Google gives high priority to Contact us,privacy policy and disclaimer pages compared to other posts or pages, especially with new sites.As you build backlinks to your other posts/pages the rankings will settle down.

Make sure your home page is "dofollow" and not "nofollow".

make your contact page "nofollow"

Optimize your home page with the keywords you want to rank for.

create anchor text backlinks to your homepage.

Monetize your contact page. Get some benefit from that ranking. :-)

That's why its currently not ranking that well. You WILL eventually overtake your contact us but right now Google's trying to figure out all of these new links to your homepage. My guess is that you aren't linking to anything aside from your homepage?

If not you need to begin DEEP linking your website as well. Find alternative keywords that you can go after for your internal pages and begin linking those as well. Its only so natural when a website (albeit new!) receives all of the same type of links. For example, low quality, same anchor text, thousands of links, that all go to the homepage.

Be sure to diversify everything, that includes your anchor text on your homepage.
