I have read somewhere that we can add supplememt words in meta keywords and it helps to rank our website in SERP,when someone search with the combination of our keyword & supplement words. For Example: Keyword: penny stamp supplement word in meta keyword tag: collection, collecting It will show our site in SERP, when someone search with query : penny stamp collection. Is it true? |

This has the detailed info about meta tags - http://static.googleusercontent.com/...rter-guide.pdf However, meta tags will not contribute much for ranking. |

They've fallen by the way side due to abuse by people keyword stuffing link farms and other junk sites with either no content or malware. I still use meta keywords - but not for SERPs benefits. Instead, the keywords define what the site is focused on, what a particular article is focused on, and they keep me focused as well since various plug-ins use and site tools use your meta tags to test content keyword density. SEOquake does when you click 'info' & it spits out a keyword analysis of your page, applying an attribute next to each keyword or phrase that matches the three main meta tags. So they're not entirely useless. More optional, with the option part being that they're useful to you instead of SERPs. |

Google has ignored meta keywords for years now however Yahoo still does read them but even in Yahoo's case, it doesn't contribute much...

I still use meta keyword tags, but only so that I can see at a glance what I'm optimizing for | |
