That is what a lot of people do and fairly successfully at that. It has nothing to do with how many links he created, it is more a matter of how they were applied and possibly what type they were (I did not see the type of links clarified).

Google wants you to build a great site and then wait for people to just find it, decide it is great and build links to it. If you do anything other than that you are attempting to game the system. Now some people push the line more than others but if you are doing ANYTHING that is unnatural then you are attempting to game the system and have no moral high ground to preach to anyone about link building.

The difference between manual and automated link building is only one of efficiency. In both cases you are trying to fool Google into thinking something that is not true.

Now some people do no artificial link building at all and manage to do well without it. My hat is off to them and when they bitch about link spammers those people do have the right to get up on that soapbox and preach(or bitch).

Anyone else though is really hypocritical at best.

You find out what works for you by testing. NEVER just take anyone's word for what works and what does not. What works for me and the niches I do may not work for you and your niche.

You test something and then you test it some more. When you find something that works you keep using it and get rid of the stuff that does not.

Now there are some general guidelines you can use to start. But remember these are my guidelines someone elses will be different.

1. Good content on your site
2. Good internal link structure on your site.
Most everyone agrees on the first two

3. Backlinks-this is where the fun begins
a. links in related content are much better than stand alone links
b. relevancy of the site your link comes from does not matter. only the content around your link.
c. steady is better than one hit blasts.
d You should have a variety of link types
e. You should have links from as many different sites and ip addresses as possible.
f Get as many links from actual high PR pages as possible.
g. and last but not least there is really no such thing as a bad backlink.

Just because you blasted 6,000 links at once, it does not mean it got indexed all at once. Especially if these were profile links then it'll take even longer to get indexed. And no way is this considered black hat as some has mentioned.

I hear this mentioned a lot, but no one is actually testing it. Perhaps someone should try and see what happens. You might open up an entire new method of SEO. "Be the least penalized site in your niche and then you will hold top rankings"...

I would suggest to send an other 6000 links after a while and you will be ok. Backlinks cannot hurt your site, no matter what they say. Worst case, they are not counted.

Penalties like this are never permanent, sooner or later the competition would be back, as should your site (some people here mentioned 3 or more months).

Seeing your site rankings disappear overnight is actually quite common when running seo campaigns. Some people call it the "Google Dance". I'm personally not sure why it happens but I do know with 100% certainty that your site ranking will return relatively soon. Not only that but I predict the ranking will be much improved as well.

Some folks fear that their rankings disappeared because Google did not like the links they submitted. But that just isn't the case. The worse that would happen if Google disliked your links is that they would disallow the link juice flowing from them to your site. It would have no effect whatsoever on the existing backlinks that were already in place. Otherwise you'd be able to over backlink to your competitors sites to cause them to be "blacklisted" by Google.

The only thing you can do to get blacklisted like that is if you add a link to a link farm or other bad neighborhood on your site.

Best thing I can tell you is to sit back and watch the site return to page one. You'll get you there before you know it.

I also challenge you to submit the same amount of links to each of the competing sites ranked ahead of you now. If your theory holds water you should very easily bump them down the serps. If you do that you'll see I am right on the money with what I'm saying.

Well in my experience links can bring down a site, or make it dance non-stop for a while, it happened countless times... Luckily it's always temporary, they always get back, but the momentary penalty Google gives you for doing massive sudden linking is very real indeed, as many people on this thread have testified.

Used to be considered preposterous but a few month sago people started getting notices in the their webmaster accounts regarding spam links and their were reports of people getting slapped. If your site has solid links however it helps to balance out your portfolio.

I do not think you can hurt a site with good authority links already in their link portfolio but there now IS some possibility that without those you can tank a site.

6000 backlinks at once is a lot for a new site. If SERP is only base on number of backlinks, people will use Xrumer and blast 10k links everyday. This will be Xrumer battle .

Yeah this is always a problem especially if the links are lower in quality.

Build more quality links steadily and your website will come right back up.

Yes, but only if it's not an authority site, and even then, only temporarily.

I second this. Search engine rankings are not a straight line to the top. There is lots of zig zags on the way. It's just the nature of how the system works.

I agree. Too many times I have seen this happen, only to see the site jump back to a position higher than it was in the first place. Typically people freak out and blame the most recent SEO/LinkBuilding service provider like it's their fault.

Then a week later, when the site goes back up, they give credit to either themselves or the person they just bought more links from yesterday.

My point here is that there is a delay. Google doesn't INSTANTLY change rankings. Same with Alexa ranking. Alexa's rankings are computer quarterly... so if your alexa ranking is going down it has nothing to do with the current activities, but rather what you did 3 months ago.

Of course you should know I never take seo advice from anyone here on the forum. I tried that route at first when I started up our seo company. There were too many contradicting theories that made it impossible to follow. So I sat my ass down and learned how to do it. Now I only go with raw empirical data.
