Hello all, I recently started up a new project site. I was hoping the domain would be useful as it contained the words "how to". I was planning on using this to my advantage when ranking for long tail searches when people are looking how to do something. I have looked in my Webmaster Tools at the keyword section but it does not display any keywords for the word "how". I am wondering if Google does not count adverbs such as "how" as a keyword for a website? I have been linking to my site a lot using the word 'how' but maybe this is a mistake if it does not help my site since it seems to me that google is ignoring the word 'how'. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this matter for me as I am considering domain change over this issue since I only chose the domain name for what I thought would be its SEO qualities. Should I continue optimising for the word 'how'? I am thinking towards the future as I am wanting to put a lot of effort in to this site so want to lay good foundations for SEO. Thanks in advance |

Thanks this was quite useful in refining my search to find out more about this issue. I did a search on "stop words" and found out that Google basically ignores all the words in my domain . So much for my plan... I may as well have just made a domain I liked the name of! That's certainly put a downer on my day... a months work of backlink building down the drain ![]() Any ideas for the types of words to use SEO wise for a domain for a site about everything? |

In general, a site about a broad topic is just a bad idea. You'll be fighting against the way search engine algorithms are inherently made. You're better off with a dozen or 2 dozen clones of the same site (design or theme) each about a more specific topic. |
