Hi All, Please in very simple easy english words I really need to understand the difference between Phrase and Exact match in Google keyword tool or any keyword software when you have let's say 1000 EXACT match I believe it means 1000 searches/month for the same exact main keywords in Google search So why I see in many SEO training, internet marketers are using Phrase match for monthly searches ?? |

Hi Sam, here's the skinny: Let's say your target keyword phrase is "adult acne treatment". Exact match This number represents the number of times per month that someone types this exact phrase into Google search. In the example, they would type adult acne treatment in that exact order or words with no words before or after the phrase. And, it does not have to be in quotes. Phrase match This number represents the number of times per month that someone types this *phrase* into Google search. But, there may be words before or after the exact match. So this number includes the exact matches and also includes the searches where there is a word, or words, before and/or after the exact match. For example, these are phrase matches for the example phrase: "best adult acne treatment" "adult acne treatment reviews" etc... |

The terms "exact match" and "phrase match" refer to the method of triggering ads in AdWords advertising campaigns. The AdWords keyword tool will show you search volume data based on those ad triggering methods for a given keyword or phrase.
It is important to note the the exact match search volume data is the only data that represents search volume for an individual keyword. So it is the data that applies to keyword research of specific keywords. The context of how someone uses "phrase match" data matters. If someone is using "phrase match" search volume data in SEO training, then they either don't know what they are doing, or they are not doing individual keyword research. Perhaps they are using it to estimate the relative size of different market niches. Context matters! The bottom line is that "phrase match" search volume isn't volume for an individual keyword, it is volume for an unknown number of different keywords that share a common term. | |
