Default Link Pyramid. Myth or reality??

I am thinking about link pyramid and I have done some experiments too. I have created a link pyramid of total 500 backlinks(100 top level backlinks) to a blog for an experiment and Also I have created 100 direct backlinks to my another blog site. The keyword is same. So the competitors are same. And I have noticed that 100 direct links are working much better then the link pyramid. 2nd blog page is above of SERP then the page for that I have created the link pyramid.

So now I am thinking of this technique. Is really link pyramid a good technique or just a myth?!?!

Can experienced and expert warriors share something about this matter?

Thanks for replies...........

Doesn't the 500 link pyramid have in it 100 direct links as well?
Are the two sites using the same type of links?

Link pyramid is still working. But you need to vary the technique by diversifying it.SERP depends on many on-page factors too. Also you need to wait for the links to be indexed as well.

Top level backlinks are same. And that made me skeptical on link pyramid

I dont think onpage optimization is a fact in this case. Coz both of the sites are almost same. 2 wordpress blogs. And I have applied same onpage optimization techniques for both of these sites.

Well as first 100 links are same so I think indexing is not the problem. In-fact I am monitoring both of the 2 sites for almost 1 month. So I think here something I am missing or may be link pyramid is just a myth!

I was always taught that you are suppose to diversify your anchor text, or that could hurt you. You may want to try and use some of your other keywords and LSI words and see what happens.

Link pryamids are SUPER effective if done correctly. It gives your tier one backlinks way more authority and also a better chance of getting indexed. The link juice is immense if done correctly.

You should also diversify your links too though. The stronger your mixture of links the better, so use social bookmarking, social media, forums, blogs etc.

Hi rafiseo,

I applaud your efforts in running a test. However, there are several problems with your test and you shouldn't try to draw any conclusions from what you have done so far.

First, the test you ran makes the assumption that all links are equal. Instead of comparing the collective backlink value of one website to the other, you are assuming the backlinks are equal based on a simple count. One backlink can be 10,000 times more powerful than another, how have you accounted for those kinds of differences?

Second, you have made the assumption that the two blogs have the exact same on-page optimization based simply on using similar content and optimization methods. There are small changes to on-page elements that can make a significant difference in ranking, what have you done to compare and equalize those significant differences?

Last and most significantly, this is just one blog compared to one other blog, it is completely anecdotal. You haven't ran this test more than one time, you have no ideal if you would get a similar result if you repeated it, much less if you repeated it 100 times.

It appears to me that there is major flaw in your test. Assuming all on-page SEO was exactly equal, and the value of all backlinks were equal, the result doesn't make sense. Your test assumes that the value of all backlinks are equal yet the backlink pages, that you built more backlinks to, appear to have less power. That's like saying 4 + 4 = 2, it just doesn't add up mathematically.

As I pointed out above, there is nothing in your post that suggest that you attempted to normalize your data. There is no reason to assume that you would get similar results if you repeated the test. You did not test against a control group, one blog is not a group. I encourage you to further analyze the differences in your two websites, you may learn something when you study the differences.

Try comparing their rankings using the the allintext: operator, as well as the allinanchor: operator. Try repeating the test a few dozen times. Try to find ways to normalize the data. You took the first step down the path that leads to the truth, many more steps are required before you will get close to the truth. Get going and have a good journey!
