Default Google First Page For 'Affiliate Marketing' - What I've Done?

Hey, For those who are on the seo forum for more than one year, you already know how I did it.

Today, I just wanted to tell you something pretty important...

I was on the first page of Google for the keyword "affiliate marketing" for more than one year, and I suddenly lost my top 10 rankings this year.

But ...

One thing quickly give me a top 5 position for this keyword after I was on page three for a couple of months!

What I've done?

I just added new content to my website, and changed the existing content, changed my title tag, and BAM I'm on page one again with even better position,

So make sure that you show to Google that YOUR page is updated.

Not all your page, I just did it for my front page (index.html).

Advice: update your pages every two or three months.

Franck

Thanks for sharing the advice and discovering. However it might be quite difficult to keep updating all pages if you have lots of small sites.

MySQL Content Databases - yellow pages, world hotels, lawyers, realtors, amazon books, golf courses, colleges, famous quotes, auto parts, dictionary, etc.

Thanks for that. May I ask, did you replace some existing content, or just add new content?

I recently added content and feeling that "bloat" was setting in, moved some existing content to another page. I then left a paragraph on the first page ending in "more on keyphrase here".

The result was I dropped from position 7 to the next page at 15.

I had previosuly been at number 3 on the first pagefor some time but had dropped to 7. This is what prompted me fresh content in the first place. Prior to this, I used to make small alterations in the text to freshen things up.

I appreciate that other factors could be at play.

I'd appreciate your thoughts

Hey,

I just did it for my HOMe page.

"Not all your page, I just did it for my front page (index.html)."

In fact, you should do this for the keyword you want to rank high. Google like updated content.

In fact, I did Both:

1. Replace some existing content.
2. Adding new content.

It works.

I would add that if you currently have a top 3 position or top 1, don't change anything yet... Just get more links.

Can you give us a URL please?

Because I really don't believe that just onpage optimization (this is what you did in terms of SEO + new content) could send you to Google page 1 for 'affiliate marketing' - this is not an easy keyword.

I assume that before doing that onpage changes you must have gathered a nice amount of backlinks to this site. That is why I am asking you to URL to check how many backlinks (approximately) you have at the moment.

Actually yes, that what its all about, but you can let your robot file tell SER how often you will update, they wont follow you exactly but it will help

Actually, not difficult at all... It can be as simple as rewording a single sentence... as long as you perform some kind of update. Of course, it's good if you can add an extra instance of your primary keyword, say by adding a footer or whatever. And this is especially true if your site is blog based. Blog sites automatically 'ping' SE's whenever they are updated.

Thanks for the reply Franck.

Actually, I dropped from 3 to 7 and that's what prompted me to make changes.

Thanks again.

Hey freetraf...

Please RELAX man! How can you live like that?

First, if never said that making a change propelled me on Google page one?

Here is what I said: "Hey, For those who are on the seo forum for more than one year, you already know how I did it."

Please, read again what I've posted in the original thread.

As for the link, it's in my sig...

As for backlinks, you will see that I don't have that many...

As for not being an easy keyword, when I got there, I was a complete SEO BEGINNER... Never found it difficult. I'm yet to see a difficult keyword either. SEO is just kind of repetitive and 'robotic' work. (Do this, do that...)

God bless,

Please man RELAX!

Franck

Hi Franck.

Now I am absolutely relaxed, thanks! How can one not get relaxed after being asked twice?!

Why I got so excited and interested?

Because new knowledge is always a challenge - and when a person says that he gets Google page 1 for keyword with 8,690,000 inanchor competition (inanchor:"affiliate marketing" - Google Search) - how can I get relaxed when I see something interesting to come up?

Signed up to your list (from the page on the sig), unfortunately the offer is closed.

Is there any other place where I can find out your secrets, legally of course?

That's awesome... thanks so much for the tip. I noticed that I lost placement for my site as well. I know its been a long time since I updated a number of pages (including the home page). I guess I have some updates to make.

I don't have that many secrets. Only common knowledge. I do what works.

If you are on my list, then, you'll learn many of my close guarded secrets, patience.

Changing an existing page will indicate to Google that a site is being updated, but I prefer to add new content which accomplishes the same goal.

It is good practice in general to add content to your site on an ongoing basis. When you add more quality pages to your site, you increase the site's value for visitors, you increase the site's PageRank with new PageRank being created and passed via internal links, and Google responds to sites that are updated regularly. Larger sites tend to rank well and maintain their rankings.

My main goals for client sites are to SEO existing pages, then simultaneously increase the site size and create quality backlinks on a consistent basis.

100% right. One new page a week is a good start. Adding a blog helps even more.

Thanks.

Google loves fresh content.

This is why you can submit a press release with a long tail keyword, and google will love it.
