Default How long do we do forum posting for?

For the last the last 7 days or so, I've been trying to do forum posting and getting keyword signatures every day as my main method for SEO, but have not seen a budge in the SERPs at all. Most of the forums I've been earning the back links from are between PR 3 and PR 5.

Should I continue doing this for the next 7 days to see an increase in the SERPs?

7 days is nowhere near enough to evaluate the effectiveness of a backlink campaign. How about you try doing it for 3 or 4 months?

One big question here... are you only doing forum profile linking? If so you're going to have major issues down the road. You need a diverse link base, relying solely on forum profile links will get you Google slapped before you know it.

Mix in directory, web 2.0, comments, articles, and some high quality relevant links.

Also, you are completely wasting your time if you're not layering your forum profile links. Just sayin, hope this helps.

SEO is A LOT of work, don't look for the shortcuts.

Your first mistake is thinking that forum sigs, or just a bunch of links
for that matter, is going to move you up in SERPs. Sadly, there are
those that preach that BS. Do some more research...that should
not be your main method of SEO.

The insanity of "keep it up" is just cargoing on nonsense.

For the next 7 days, try doing stuff that actually matters.

But then, you know what? You may never move up. There is no
magic formula. That was the second mistake. Believing in some
formula. "If I just do more forum posting...."

We know nothing about you, your content, your site quality,
your authority, your competition, your history, your site
structure, web footprint, etc. Nobody can give you a blanket
statement on how to move up. And it's ridiculous to attempt it.

To be honest forum posting for backlinks is something you should just do naturally, I mean it only takes 15 minutes to make 10 posts on a forum each day and doing that every day will give you a nice steady stream of backlinks. You need to wait for the links to get indexed and what not, just carry on building links and experiment with other methods of link building as well.

No, profile linking is a part of it, but I'm also getting the signature links from the forum too.

So far, I've been replying to people comments to answer a question that they have, a problem they are facing, or just to support them. Sometimes getting a signature would take 3-4 hours for me to do because of the forums strict requirements, but usually it takes me about an average of an hour per forum. I have manually gotten 28 signatures which have taken me about 50+ hours to do.

My site moved up 15 ranks from page 3 to page 2 for one week (#35 to #20) in one week, and then dropped down to the middle of page 2 and has been stuck there (#25) for about a week I would say.

That's why I came here to get an opinion, not to get put down. I'm a person who does not like to multitask and and focuses on one method or process for a week's time.

Would you continue another week of doing this, or would you switch SEO methods?

If there is anyone who sucks at multi-tasking... it has got to be me! But I realized that if I want to actually reach the height of success in this industry I will have to learn how to multi-task. And that is exactly what I have done and I am getting better at it all the time.

I'm now focusing on 5 projects, whereas in the past I could only focus on one project at a time. It comes down to proper planning and writing down what you want to achieve in a hour/day/month/year.

If you really want to focus on one SEO method at a time, you should focus on the method that is going to provide the best return. And unfortunately - forum posting isn't going to give you much SEO value but it might help for traffic.

Rather focus on getting high PR backlinks! If you doing this consistently you will see the fruits of your labor.

First, definitely not putting you down.

Second, Forum profile links can be a great way to bring your website out of the abyss. But beyond that, their help is limited (unless you are layering them). If I were you I'd stop forum profile linking and go after a few competitive links that your competition are getting. Or even try getting links directly from your competition... I'm sure your next question is... how? There's a number of different strategies you can employ, these links are much more difficult to come by but are significant in moving past the page 3 mark for competitive keywords. They are what in my opinion separate the spammers from the real SEO peeps.

Don't forget about onsite optimization and keyword strategy as well.

You might be chasing a highly competitive short head keyword with 1000 searches a day, but there might be 50 long tail keywords with little competition and 1000 searches a day. Always go after the 50 long tails first.

Agreed. Search Engines ain't dull to give a bonus for it. Even if you made a thousand post in a single forum, that's just 1 IP duplicated a thousand times for your vote. Listen to the experts when they say "diverse back linking pattern add up to domain trust and authority".

You should post on forums, sure but don't make it your only backlink solution. Also post comments on Blogs and ask to exchange links with partners too. Write articles, they yield good juice. Also, only so much link juice can come from 1 forum... the more posts the more juice but more you post on that 1 forum, less juice you get from additional posts, so in short, you want to be a member of multiple forums and post on each equally.

Also, when you post, don't just post anything. Help people out with the knowledge you gained here and there from reading other relevant posts from authoritative members.

1 week is not enough time. SE's take time to analyze backlinks especially Google! GoogleBot needs to come and check you out multiple times before it adjusts your rank which is as of this writing and in my opinion why it now takes 3 to 4 months to get an accurate rank in SERP's.
