The best Adsense optimized theme I know of (and I looked for one for a long time) is called

    HeatMap Theme

WordPress Adsense Ready Theme - HeatMap Theme

You can use the free version or get the premium one... I think it is the best Adsense theme available.

I don't think there is a magical theme. I have had just as much success with the Wordpress 3.0 default theme than any of the 'optimised' themes. I have used the MFA themes and had failures, too.

I think you are better of using a theme that looks good and is easy to use. A lot of the MFA themes are just painful. Avoid the magazine style themes that are too busy - even for normal use.

Any 2 column layout should give you decent success, but yeah...the default WP3 theme is a good one! (the way you can customise the navigation is very handy! Quick to get a site up and running, too. )

I totally agree with there is no magical theme, it should look good and easy to use.

I also don't like Magazine theme... there is too much information in one page.

The new WP 3.0 Twenty Ten theme is quite good although you may need to know a little HTML/CSS/PHP tweaking to get it where you want.

My recently updated dateless mini-site theme (link in sig) uses WP 3.0 features that allow you to have custom logo, background graphic and colors and uses the standard WP widget interface to allow you to place ads in the best spots for Adsense, eBay EPN and Amazon.

I would suggest using Artisteer, and create your own premium theme. It is really easy to use and the themes are clean and professional doesn't look like cookie cutters that are MFA. I had fun making a few themes myself for my own Adsense sites.

Thesis theme is another clean and customizable theme, I find it expensive though.

Another nice theme I enjoy is the Flexibility 3 theme (just recently launched) and it is free

No one here checked out the HeatMap Adsense theme?

It is a great theme that was created for use of Adsense and ads.

Just check out all the built in ad placements you get with it:

You can see a live demo site that runs this theme at - Live Demo site for Heatmap Theme - HeatMapTheme.net

I really find it as the best theme for Adsense.

I purchased and tested it. It took be about half a day to go through all the features and tune everything just the way I liked it. I think its great, but the problem I have is that most of my sites were munched by Google panda and I simply shelved hundreds of sites.

How do you get an old site back and getting traffic post-panda? Will this theme help?

  • I confirm Heatmap is good enough for Adsense, but it's a little confusional for visitors.
In case is better to use two column designs and insert Adsense carefully with the same colors of the site.
    That's what I do.

Another good theme for Adsense and advertising is Atomic Theme that you can check on my internet marketing books website : Internet Market Books. (No affiliate link obviously)
But the bad thing is it's costly and requires time to be customized with colors.

Thanks Guys for the nice comments about HeatMap here on this thread. Much appreciated.

Hey Allesandro, If you like your ad themes minimal without many distractions you are going to love the new version of HeatMap I've got in alpha test right now. Its going to be a substantial upgrade, with options that allow you to go super minimal (less distractions for your ads), but also with lots more ad placement options.

I expect it to go into Heatmap Insider Members beta in the next couple of weeks.

I use Heatmap extensively and a big fan of it. If your in the process of adding new features, I would like to suggest the ability to turn ads on and off on individual pages and posts in the window itself. The ability to disable ads only in the content window not the sidebar as this can be done in the widgets area.

Hi warriors, I am surprise that there is no mention of David Law talian 5, or Stallion 6
wp themes I just new I would get some reviews from this forum.

The Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin was created to replace the so called WordPress SEO plugins currently available that damage a sites search engine optimization efforts. Any WordPress plugin that uses noindex and/or nofollow on your WordPress sites has the potential to damage your sites search engine rankings and should be avoided or at least used with extreme care.

The popular WordPress SEO plugins including the Yoast WordPress SEO Plugin and the All in One SEO Pack WordPress Plugin use nofollow and noindex : Yoast WordPress SEO Plugin uses noindex and nofollow, All in One SEO Pack WordPress Plugin uses noindex.
Why you shouldn’t use WordPress SEO Plugins that use Nofollow

WordPress SEO plugins like the Yoast SEO Plugin should not be used because nofollow deletes link benefit, it’s as simple as that. Google changed the way nofollow works some years ago (2008), unfortunately many WordPress SEO ‘Experts’ either don’t keep up to date with changes in SEO techniques or they don’t care (it’s an easy way to gain traffic touting a WordPress SEO plugin even if it is flawed/SEO damaging).

Don’t believe nofollow deletes link benefit, do some research and find what Matt Cutt’s (he works for Google) had to say about Google’s change to nofollow back in June 2009:

Stallion includes 9 options pages encompassing almost 200 options, a convenient main options page for activating the theme (add your PayPal/Clickbank transaction ID) and for adding your Google AdSense Publisher ID, Chitika username and Clickbank username. Those are the only settings you have to set, you can of course turn all the ad networks off on this options page and run Stallion as a WordPress SEO theme with no ads (or use the custom widget areas for your custom ads).
The remaining 8 options pages are optional though highly recommended you play around with them as they add all sorts of useful features. Over the coming weeks I’ll be filling this site with various Stallion tutorials (and videos if I get the time!) so we all can get the best out of Stallion 6.

    Funny.

I want optimized themes to achieve HIGH rankings - and maintain them. Not a footprint theme for high CTR. Besides, you achieve high CTR with high rankings - not the opposite. So why ask for a high CTR theme?

    /confused/

Anyways, my "best" option is always place the code by hand, create new CSS Divs, open PHP files and move on.

    Just my 2 cents.

    ^^ Need a high CTR punchline. :p

Some themes will do better for some sites than others.

We tested both the Heatmap and ProSense themes on a bunch of sites and found similar results. Aesthetically, I like the Heatmap theme better, but that's just my preference and not based on actual data.

Pretty themes don't work as well for our sites as the less-pretty themes. If you're looking for a good selection of templates to choose from that are "pretty" check out the club rates for WooThemes. We're members there and use some of their templates for our sites...

I use heatmap theme because I can basically, copy my settings from blog to blog and get a full blog set up going in about 10 minutes. Much easier than all of the cloning tools that require DB access and all that. It also comes with like 20 color skins which is nice.

As far as adsense placement goes, there are only so many placements that work in the prototypical High CTR placement model. Then you get into blending. Then you are out of things to optimize.

So to me, the value of the theme outside of its placements is what matters. The only other thing I would consider are themes that allow for easy AB testing. That would be very cool for blogs with enough traffic to matter.

Although some themes do seem to out perform others, I think it has more to do with your content, what type of ads you host and how well you blend the two.
My best CTRs come from camouflaging my ads in my copy.
The key is to blend them in without making them invisible.

Blogs which have "awesome designs" and "awesome content" with "awesome presentation" actually ROCK now days. CTR and other themes like that might claim good CTR but design is so poor that there are 100% chances of an increase in "Bounce Rate"...

Then what's point of making an adsense site? Adsense sites will always have high bounce rate, if the CTR is high too. Its pretty much obvious.

TO OP - I get 10%+ CTR with the default twenty Eleven theme comes with core wp installation setup. Left side bar 160x600 + 336x280 above the fold + 336x280 after content is all what you need to have decent CTR.

Those high CTR themes are just a result of hype and effective sales pitch and some crazy advertising on webmaster forums.

What we've found is that CTR is much more closely related to niche than it is theme. As long as you have all the "basic" layout stuff covered (most of the ready-for-adsense themes do) it's likely the niche and not the theme.

I like how CTR theme rotates the ads for you...that's pretty cool...but I wish it could rotate theme layouts...that would be awesome I think. We're testing it out now against our previous theme and have noticed slightly lower CTR's on a large amount of sites/traffic, but it's pretty early in the test to make any determination...

        TryBPO,

Thanks for the insights - what is your experience on the Electronics niche in general. I think this niche has low CTRs as people interested are internet savvy and are aware of these ads and all.

        Thanks!

          Hey there,

Yes, we generally avoid any electronics or technology niches. It's a guess on our part, but we feel the people that frequent those search terms are pretty web-savvy and generally avoid clicking advertisements. (Doesn't that bring up another question, though? People that "get it" avoid advertising? hmmm)

We try to go with things like:
          • DIY around-the-house kind of stuff
          • Appealing to housewives/househusbands
          • Things you might search for privately...DUI, rashes, etc

          Hope that helps!

I (and I'm sure many other people) would love to see some split testing done for CTR comparison between CTR Theme and Clickbump Engine. Not that click-through rate would be the sole factor as to which theme is "better," I just think it'd be an interesting experiment. Does anyone own both?

I have both of these but not really got many adsense sites with decent enough traffic to test them against each other, not the type of site I have been working with for a while so they are from way back when I tried out some adsense techniques... may have to try and build them up and see what happens with each theme...

Thanks for the recommendation of Adsense Pro Ultimate, I will have to check that out... found this page while searching for it which has a few others on it... not tried any so just sharing the link in case others were looking... no affiliation or anything like that.

I’m just starting out and have some questions about the CTR theme if someone has time to answer them I would truly appreciate it.

I’m concentration on making small niche sites with relevant content about 2-4 pages each. My questions are...

        1. Is it more effective to use pages or posts with CTR theme? Do is it matter?

        2. Can I stop using the All in One SEO plugin and just input the meta information in the CTR Theme options?

        3. I was using Google Analytics plugin too, is that still needed or is it safe to just put the analytics in the General Site Options section of CTR theme?

I guess I’m trying to find out what other plugins I need to use with this theme (if any) because I’m use to working with more than one.

        Thanks for your time!

          Leme take the opportunity to answer your questions. Since I have bought Adsense pro Ulitmate from ctr-themes .com, I'll only be able to answer questions related to this;

          1. No it doesn't matter as long as you target the right keyword in your post.

          2. Depends, however, All in One SEO is the best plugin around and I won't recommend you dropping it off.

          3. With this theme, you can simply paste the code inside Themes option. No plugin required.

          I hope this helps!

          That's totally ridiculous!

Millions of themes exist on the net are are still used every single day, not everyone needs support for such a simple theme.

I agree support is nice, still were not tearing down a space shuttle & rebuilding it, it's an Adsense theme for Wordpress.

Here's an idea which some of you may not have thought of. Instead of loading your theme with Adsense banners in every possible spot with ctr, reduce it to maybe 2 banners instead. I always have the side banner and either the 728 x 90 OR(not he same as "and") 336x280 Ads showing either at the top or bottom. If you load your site with ads it looks spammy and will probably put people off.

Also if your targeting a keyword with low advertisers Google will use alternative ad networks which provide next to nothing CPC which means you end up losing money. Use less ads, and try testing the best places on each post which will increase your ctr rate, it's not always about what theme you use, it's about ad placement and as Yukon pointed out, that all important traffic.

        Clickbump is pretty slick

as far as support? If you send PM to Scott the owner on his forum
        his support is, almost unbelievable

you will think you are the only person he is dealing with
simply put its very very strong support if you have any questions. I was impressed
I must have sent him 7 Pms and he answers them very quickly answering any questions I had.

Clickbump is a pretty slick theme, and the Jumpstart Pro engine is also very unique

I was a fan of CTR theme. But the seller has stopped supporting when i need to transfer the license for someone else(Flipping). But it doesn't have a function to make a unique license for a client.
This is the advantage with Clickbump. It provides a developer license for site flipers.

Both are great but from my testing it all depends on the niche, for niche xyz you might find one or the other end up giving you a higher CTR. But certainly both of these themes are able to give you a min of 4% CTR on SE traffic.

If you are looking for a 7-8% CTR. Use any 2 column theme, sidebar on the right.
Put a 336X280 banner on the left wrapped to your content. Do not put any distractions, no rss button, no social buttons, etc. you'll easily get CTR of 7%.

Just to clarify: Are you saying ANY 2 column theme with your recommended specifications will give a CTR of 7%?

I was still hoping to find information about the CTR Theme, but it's appearing to be a pretty negative review due to the lack of supporting by the creator.

This is good advice. I've just got my first wordpress site up using CTR theme and I'm quite happy with it so far, I didn't realize the support was no longer existent though as there are a few little niggly issues I would like to change I think I'll have a good look at the clickbump theme for my next site though...

It's not perfect but fine for my purposes, and there has been a bit of talk around the place about Google figuring out the footprint of CTR theme but I haven't seen evidence of that either.

With this methode I mus use an 3 column theme or not?
2 sidebars on the right are really user frindly, but putt this adsense banner on the left, I mus have an left sidebar (=3 sidebars) ??

For embedded in the content on the left, the best choice I think is the wide skyscraper (160 x 600), so you dont nee a 3rd. left column sidebar.

        best wishes

I don't know how people actually decide before clicking on ads. However, I guess that they confuse ads with content and click. Google tries to play double role with this. It at some point says that the ads should be distinct. At the same time it provides what kind of ads perform well. And the result is the blended ads outperform all.

So, I think any themes which disguise the ads must perform well in terms of earning! I'm blatant but it's true.

Who, in their right mind, especially after Panda and KNOWING that Google is banning people from Adsense left and right for all kinds of stuff, would still use Prosense/Bluesense?

Those layouts are so OBVIOUS screaming "Made for Adsense"..every Adsense "newb" and their mama uses them. I simply consider them too risky, especially and in particular with that "mock" menu bar with the Ads (either on Top or on the side)..which are absolutely against Adsense TOS. Get a manual review one day..and you are out from Adsense.

I have an About, Contact, and Privacy Policy page. Using CTR Theme, there aren't any icons or buttons that link to these pages which are usually found at the top of a website. In order to get to it, I have to type "mywebsite.com/about" the same with all of the rest of the pages. Is there any way to fix this?

Are you sure CTR theme affected your ranking? Google sandboxed you or are you talking about adsense?

I've had CTR theme for about 6 months now, and I've been ranked 1-5 with a couple of keywords for quite some time now. I enjoy CTR theme so stick with it.

My experience has been interesting with this theme and am wondering if anyone has had the same issue. I was averaging only $.75 a day with one click with a customized version of Twenty Eleven theme and switched over to CTR Theme yesterday around mid day. Within a few hours I had accumulated several clicks and made $7. Then my income just stopped and now almost 18 hrs later I still have no clicks. Not sure if it's just something to do with my site but I noticed my impressions aren't matching the stats for site visits. Either way I think Google has caught on.

As a side note I changed the filenames for all the CTR Theme files since it was recommended from other SEO sites to avoid Google recognizing it right away.

Just thought I'd share my most recent experience. I might just invest in the Magnum theme as I've heard good things about it.

Prior to using CTR Theme, I was earning about $1.00/day. The original theme itself was pretty simple with adsense text ads (728x15) near the top and bottom, (300x250) in the middle of each unique article (500-600 words). The niche is in the "wedding" area. Each article is highly on-paged SEO'd as well as off-page SEO'd.

I started the site back in Feb of 2011. I changed to the CTR theme in November. From November until last week (Jan 9, 2012), I was getting less clicks than before and earnings dropped. My homepage was on the 5th position on page 1. I'm getting about 100-150 visitors per day (No change in the number of visitors for both the CTR Theme and original theme).

In December, the homepage dropped to the 2nd page (12th position). There has been no change to the way I was (and am) building backlinks to the site as well as adding a new unique article (1 per week).

I went back to my original theme last week. Guess what, the clicks are coming back to what they were before using the CTR theme. Hopefully my homepage will go back to page 1.

I use statcounter to see how thw visitors are exiting my site.

I have another CTR theme site in the acne niche which I started in August. It is now at 4th position/first page. I have only received 2 adsense clicks so far. I'm planning to move it to another theme and see what happens. I may try clickbump's theme.

I think people are getting wised to the "CTR Theme" type of sites, no?

I have an About, Contact, and Privacy Policy page. Using CTR Theme, there aren't any icons or buttons that link to these pages which are usually found at the top of a website. In order to get to it, I have to type "mywebsite.com/about" the same with all of the rest of the pages. Is there any way to fix this?
Go to your widgets section in wp-admin and you can add a page links widget there, either in your sidebar or your footer.

To be honest, you can use a free theme and use a plugin such as Adsense Split Tester to insert your ads above, after the first paragraph or below your content without the use of premium themes. Then just add your 160x600 skyscraper to your widget area.

The good things about the plugin is that you can set up two or three different ads variations for the same position using different colors, fonts, size, boarders or anything and see which converts better. Definitely a handy free theme.

Stay away from this kind of theme. I have a site that ranks already in page 1, and then after i changed it to CTR theme, my ranking drop to page 3. Then after few weeks of using CTR theme, i decided to change to a new one. Then my rankings is back again. This is just my opinion, so if you wont agree then its your choice.

I actually have to agree that CTR Theme is HORRIBLE on the eye! This goes for Heatmap Pro as well.

Maybe I am just anal or a perfectionist, but those two themes SCREAM "Unprofessional" in my book!

With that being said though, I have had some good success with Thesis, Headway, Socrates and Ultimate Blogging Theme.

Thesis is the best theme I've ever seen. You can do whatever you want with it.

There's no such thing as an Adsense theme. CTR is largely determined by niche, regardless of what people selling themes will tell you.

That being said, people rave about Clickbump for adsense.

              Good luck.

You have to pay every year with Clickbump for updates, and I had a bad experience with it causing my sites to go nofollow after I applied an update.

Regardless, I now think ad placement and ad design must be much bigger factors than the theme for CTR. With my next theme, I am going to select one with the most options for ad placement. Or, just go with a free theme and select a good plugin that allows for a lot of easy ad experimentation. That should help me find what works best.

What works for one site and niche is not necessarily going to work for another. Therefore, everyone needs to experiment.

yeah Joel Comm (the adsense guru) developed a WP theme specifically for WP called Socrates. I've used it (costs money) and it is awesome for utilizing adsense. I will say however, that I've created my own adsense html page that has a much higher CTR than any WP theme....but that is just my experience.

Sorry, but that just looks so plain and I can't see why any old free theme couldn't put two ad blocks in the widget area?

My highest paying adsense site uses heatmap. I have another site I custom built that "should" be better than heatmap - but has less traffic so it's hard to say (even using CTR percentages)

I would love to hear about CTR because that's how I found this thread. I want to get the theme and wonder if it's worth the price, especially when I can develop or customize any theme. It looks like a real time saver and I like how it rotates ad placement.

Never thought about footprints... only one comment on that so far. Good point, but I am not sure if it's true.

You are the second person to make this comment, but I don't know if it's correct at all. The highest CTR I have is with "heatmap reloaded", and it's ranked on page one of G for many very competitive words (6 that I check regularly). It is consistently better than 6% CTR.

So, I am not saying you are wrong, just that there is no evidence of a "footprint".

I designed my own site and it's so much better than heatmap. The ads are placed in the most awesome position and the look is so natural and good. BUT, it doesn't have as good a CTR as heatmap. I just don't have the heart to change it out and keep hoping there is some other factor at play (perhaps the niche or audience).

But, I am ready to swap out at least heatmap for some of my other low performing CTR sites. I'd like to try CTR theme and Clickbump, but I want to make sure it is actually the design that is lowering the CTR on these sites first.

Thanks for the great info here. I have been using several, CTR and a few others. Now, I have more choices.

One question I do wonder about though, is the footprint. Should I be concerned about using a known adsense theme on a 100 or more sites ?

This is why I have used a handful of different themes.

thanks, in advance for any input.

I like to use more conventional themes so as to keep a less spammy look and have the feel of an authority site. I'll trade a lower CTR for return visitors and long term success any day. That said I use mostly highly customized premium themes, but a good free one is Branford Magazine (there is a premium and free version).

I can't post links yet but I'll come back when I can with some examples. It's a highly functional theme, I like to use it when we build sites for other people because it is really easy to use and you can control everything through admin instead of code.

Pretty much any theme you buy will be optimized for the search engines. Wordpress is very well designed for search.

I would get a plugin to handle optimization instead such as Platinum SEO or SEOPressor.

No, this is incredibly incorrect. Not all themes are SEO optimized. Most of them aren't. Most are designed to be pretty, and they sacrifice design for SEO. You really need to be careful which theme you pick because it can and will affect your on page SEO.

i think i'm going to offer this theme on WSO. for $18 or $27, but i need some reviews and suggestion before that.
any input is appriciated. (and i know how to say thank you..)

it's advance multipurpose theme, with multiple layout and style..
tested with google page speed, and the result is awesome (97).
tons of ad placement, and you disable each for each post/page.

haha most themes dont even have the ads placed right.....looks like they just throw them on the site and say have at it...someome please click us....

Make sure you at least place 1 ad within the content..you want to interrupt the reader...when you first land on a page...where do you eyes go....to the ads on the top and left...or straight to the content?

Also..we are all prone to clicking on blue links..I would use that color as well....

I've just started using CTR and have been happy with it so far. I haven't seen a lot of earnings but then I haven't see a lot of traffic so that part makes sense. I like the fact that I can make different pages look different, that it automatically put Analytics code on every page and only have to put the different Adsense blocks in once.

CTR Theme means Click Through rates which is for Word press. CTR makes it easy to build informational websites monetized with Ad Sense. Ad Sense basically presents hands-off recurring income, but usually these sites abscond a lot of money on the table by having bad designs or under optimized ad placement.

Many people still use thesis for SEO purposes. But I heard that it is a little outdated. It is nice that there are child themes for it, and a lot of development has been done for it. Many of the woo themes have nice features..
Optimize press has some "decent" SEO features.

      Howdy.

As far as affiliate themes go... there is Optimize Press, ClickBump, and Affiliate Pro.

If you Google for Optimize Press (optimizepress.com)... or set a Google Alert for it... you will find many posts that discuss lack of well organized support and other users that love it.

I started a WF thread (post #1) specifically looking for experienced users of both Optimize Press and ClickBump... however there was sparse participation except by Scott Blanchard, the author of ClickBump... and zero participation from anyone with Optimize Press experience.

I purchased a ClickBump package (clickbumpengine.com/warrior-special-offer)... but found the technical support and tutorials to be unorganized and quite incomplete... its forum a near ghost town... and brought this to the attention of its author, Scott Blanchard, more than once. He ended up politely refunding me without any such request on my part. Based on the many hours we spent examining the ClickBump theme, the theme itself is well developed... but quality documentation is several years behind and lacking in general.

ProAffiliate (proaffiliatetheme.com) has tremendous potential... but is riddled with customer support complaints even from within its own forum.

Inevitably, I returned to the Catalyst Theme (catalysttheme.com) because there's really nothing it CAN'T do... if you know HOW. Catalyst has an incredibly alive and vibrant forum and a great forum culture whereby high-level competent users are constantly helping forum members. The forum is really an exceptional and positive experience.

For our new CPA/CPS marketing project, we contracted one of Catalyst's certified consultants for 1.5 hours to coach us on leveraging the CSS capabilities within Catalyst. He did a great job... and we experienced a vertical learning curve. Well worth the money for increasing our long-term skill-sets.

Another theme really worth review and consideration for being exceptionally powerful and flexible is developed by another WF member: Kezz Bracey | Kezz. Her newest theme generator is: PlanetStarta.com.

I hope this may prove helpful.

      Positively,

      Alan

Unfortunately I can't recommend any adsense optimized theme. The whole concept of building a website to try to earn money with Google Adsense is completely outdated and pretty much pointless.

If you have great content, you're much better off by leveraging that interest, traffic, loyalty and more into selling your own products.

Woo Themes are good, I've used them for most of my niche sites.

In general, CTR is more to do with your niche than your theme.

Don't be too aggressive in ad placement or you'll end up with an AdSense ban.
