Here's the situation..... I am targeting a "citydental". The .com is taken, but actually redirects to a dentist office elswhere. That dentist is across the country, states away from the one I'd like. The .net is in a different state as well, with a dentist that has the last name matching the city name I'm going after. The .org is available for the city I'm targeting. Is it worth going after? I mean, am I competing against the .com and .net just as though they were in the same city I'm targeting? Or does it matter? Thanks |

.org is supposed to be reserved for not-for-profit organizations. If all others are taken, maybe go with .us instead of .org. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.org Quote:

I've managed to rank .org domains just as easily as .com domains. Content and SEO are King. |

You can go for .org, but it depends what you offer on the domain. I would recommend using hyphenated domain city-dental with .com. However, I have seen .org can easily compete with .com or .net, but .US might be difficult to catch up. Lawrence |

I'm not intending to come across as real knowledgeable with SEO cause I'm not. So, I don't know if that info answers your question. | |

Yea in my opinion .org is just as good as .com and .net. Besides, the domain is only a part of the ranking factor. Sure, it is a big help, but if you nail the rest of your SEO, you could rank with any domain name. Go for it.

Personally I would work up a different domain name. I don't like hyphens, but that would be an alternative. As stated, the .org was supposed to be for non profits, even though a lot of people are now using them. I am uncomfortable using what was meant for a non profit if I am not. |
