Alexa rank not increasing!

my site alexa rank is not increasing, I am getting 200 unique views per day but still no luck...suggest me what to do...thanks in advance.

While I don't put much stock in the Alexa ranking, from what I recall in order for your ranking to increase, visitors to your site must have the Alex toolbar installed correct?

Visitors without the toolbar installed on their system do nothing to improve your Alexa ranking.

However, you can still improve your alexa ranking if you know the code to tell Alexa to manually update its records when someone visits your site!



There's more than one way to get around people having the Toolbar!

Money is the bottom line to all sites.

Since alexa can be skewed by mindless traffic, I have never seen the value in
alexa, nor the need to be even thinking about it.

Hey paul, your comments always make a thread more 'spicy'. and I always take heed of your comments as they make sense (others I have noticed can get quite upset with what you have to say.) since you commented about '200 visitors and no money' I too am in a kind of similar position. I get about 200 uniques per day (google search) and make about $ 200 to $ 300 per month marketing weight loss clickbank products. Whereas I spend about $ 100 - $ 150 for article writing , article marketing etc. (Still working on getting better rankings to increase the traffic). This is not the kind of money I expected to make after starting IM about a year ago and just now getting the hang of it. Do you think it is viable to sell clickbank products and if not what are the other options you would advise to make some decent money.

There are literally thousands of affiliate networks to choose from, other than clickbank. There are endless physical and nonphysical products to be sold.

Just go to google and whatever you search for include the terms "affiliate networks" or "dating affiliate networks" or "travel affiliate networks" for example.

I'm in day 3 of my experiment at increasing my Alexa ranking.

Alexa ranking is generally increased by visitors who come to your site with the Alexa toolbar installed.

My experiment doesn't involve the Alexa toolbar but I have managed to increase my Alexa ranking and show an improvement of over 30 percent right now.

Am I happy, not really. Alexa ranking has no value.

I think its easy to get caught up chasing factors that can be measured simply with a number. Regardless, of the accuracy of Alexa, just like PR it is a number and it is easy to understand if you are improving or not. Most of the factors we try to understand, measure, and improve cannot be seen or really measured at all which makes PR and Alexa so appealing due to their simple visual nature.

If there was a site that could measure accurately how much another website is earning $$$...

(Impossible of course, but it would be all the rage )

Alexa updates it's statistics daily.

It's based on the number of visitors that come to your site with the alexa toolbar component installed.

The problem is that's only about 8-10% of the whole internet community right now which makes any real value in this ranking non-existent.

But if you have knowhow, you can get every visitor to count towards your Alexa ranking. I've improved my ranking over 30 percent in 3 days.

Don't waste a lot of time with Alexa. They primarily pull data from those that have the toolbar installed and their traffic info they purchase from ISPs.

At the end of the day though, Alexa is crap. Since the only people that really have the Alexa toolbar installed/SEO toolbars installed are internet marketers or SEO's that limits the truthfulness of the toolbar. That's why you'll see a bunch of IM/SEO blogs/sites with LOW Alexa rankings when in reality they don't get all that much traffic. How do I know? I have sites in niches with 20x the traffic as my IM/SEO sites and they have a higher Alexa than my sites with a ton of traffic!

From my experience, Alexa ranking does play a role in SEO, however that isn't your question.

To raise Alexa ranking, you'll need very good SEO and patience.

You don't need a very good SEO and you don't need patience.

Only about 10 percent of your visitors will have the Alexa toolbar installed.

What you have to do is capitalize on the other 90 percent of your traffic.

I agree with Paulgl. I've never noticed a high Alexa ranking doing anything for me. Better to focus on traffic generation and sales conversion. Let Alexa do it's thing.

Alexa has nothing to do with increasing visitors.

It's a metric that many advertising companies use when deciding how much they will pay for your advertising space. The higher your ranking in Alexa, the better.

Alexa is (in my opinion) the most overrated metric there is, followed by Google's pagerank.

Many advertisers "care" about Alexa but it doesn't mean it's a valuable metric for the serious blogger.

There are some advertising programs that will not let you join unless you have a certain Alexa ranking.

We're not talking passive advertising programs such as Adsense.

So while IMHO I think Alexa is as crappy as Google Pagerank, it is a reality for some people who rely on these advertising programs.

Having a wordpress blog and alex toolbar installed on my browser regularly gets my alexa ranking below 1 m and this with almost zero real traffic. So, as soon as your own working the site and updating wordpress activates alexa, I think alexa extrapolates and assumes total traffic numbers. Alexa also does not seem to distinguish unique traffic too much, otherwise it would pick up that most traffic to my site is coming from the same IP.

There is definitely some extrapolation occurring when it comes to their numbers. Estimates puts only about 10 percent of web users with the Alexa toolbar. I'm guessing they use some sort of "statistical" prediction just like election polls.

I'm not sure what happens with the same IP surfing over and over and over.

The thing is Alexa can be manipulated. I know there is an Entrecard method for manipulating Alexa that's been well known for some time.

Day 6 of my Alexa Experiment and I've seen some strange results.

The site I'm monitoring has seen it's global ranking change positions dramatically.

The recent change on the global level has the global position almost improving by 45% since I started looking at this.

Country wise, the site has lost ranking but has still shown an improvement of over 20% (down from the 30% increase shown just 3 days ago).

I've obviously picked up traffic from every other country / place except here in Canada. The biggest change seems to be coming from the USA.
