It seems to me that I can optimise a site and spend lots of time and money getting exposure for it, but it is still only based on my views of how a site should look, feel and work. How can I judge if my site is good or not ? Bounce rate? If so what ? Can anyone please recommend a way of critiquing a site that works ? |

Hi cctvinstallers, If it is metrics that you are looking for let me suggest, traffic, conversions, and profits as the primary metrics to monitor, everything else is secondary and useful for identifying trouble areas, not success. |

A couple years back I used a company called Site Tuners. They did a pretty good review of my site and because it was a GoToMeeting, they were able to email me a video of what all we went over. I'll tell you one thing which helped me a little for one of my niche sites. I built up a list of about 200 people and I asked them several questions about why they bought, what they liked and didn't like about my site, etc. Worked pretty well, but sometimes it's hard to make a site which is for everyone. I applaud you for knowing that you're too close to your own work. Often times that's where entrepreneurs fail. |

One thing you can do is try and make the subjective stuff objective instead. Look at your primary competition (like the top 10 for your keyword or the industry leaders) and analyze what they're doing. Look at their sites, their layouts, navigation, page organization, keywords, offers, pricing, etc. Then visit stats sites like quantcast, spyfu, alexa, etc. and use tools like traffic travis and market samurai. Look at the data and try to determine if any of them are making money. Find the ones that appear to be making money and look even closer at what they're doing. Then emulate them (but never copy outright). |

I recommend Scott Fox's website review service. He is one of the best, because he teaches in business colleges and does internet marketing for famous people like Larry King and Bill O'Rielly. Search for Scott Fox website critique in google. |

I was previously trying to get feedback for my websites on forums and it was always a lottery. You could get anything from 20 replies with some useful details to no comments at all. And this always frustrated me. And I didn't want to pay for feedback. So, this is how the idea of Feedback Roulette came to me. It's a community, where you are GUARANTEED to receive feedback, plus the system endorses quality feedback (by matching reviewers by reputation and giving more reviews to those who provide quality feedback themselves). Of you already have some decent traffic, you can just put a "Feedback" tab on your site (lots of services offer that for free) and you will get some feedback from your users. But if you are just starting out or have a new concept, Feedback Roulette is one of the best places that you can get your site reviewed (guaranteed!) without spending any money.

We received 181 reviews on our site 83 of them was extremely useful so we rated them 5 stars. 49 - rated 4 stars (Useful but lacking some details), 32 - rated 3 stars (somehow useful, but not detailed), 10 - rated 2 stars (Not useful but reviewer spend some time writing his opinion), 7 - rated 1 star (Not useful at all). If review is absolutely useless you always have an option to mark it as such and you'll not spend any points on that one. The name of the service (Feedback Roulette) implies some element of luck. But it also fun to review others' websites.
