Default Adsense, Ad or Link Units?

So I haven't had much success with adsense yet and was wondering what others prefer, the Ad or Link Unit. I have all my sites set up with add units because that is the way that was taught in the system I used. Now looking more into it I'm debating if I should go back and switch to Link Units, I thought they might convert better. Any feedback on your experience using these would be great!! thanx

Are you using a mix of banner compatible ad group sizes? I believe that improves you chances of getting occasional banners as well as text ads.

Most of my adsense is Text ads on the right side of the content, and some at the top under my header.

Is adsense still making money for some folks? I've taken my eye off the ball and revenue has gone right down, but I noticed before I did that, some of my high payout keywords I was getting $9 for consistently, went down to under a dollar and hasn't gone back up in 3 months.

To some extent I ould say that it depends on the theme of your site, the demographics and so on. There's no harm in experimenting with different ad positions and units and seeing that works for you. That's how I found out what works best for all of my sites. For what it's worth I recently did a test run of rectangle ads and link units on my funny pictures site and the few others and found that, while the click through rates are similiar, the general consensus that rectangle ads are the way to go, seemed to be true.

Try all options one by one and you will found which one is good for you as it's all about placements and unites. Because no one tell you exact what is better for you as it's different for all sites. You have to find out which is best for you.

Fewer clicks is generally better.

What is most important about Adsense is placement above the fold and making damn sure the ads which display on your pages match the keyword phrases your visitors type in search.

User intentions is everything.

If you are getting Ads which don't match your content you can do everything right and make no money.

Sometimes all that is needed is an adjustment in the Title Tags and a few keywords in key places.

Other times... especially on new sites you need to consult a VooDoo Doctor and put a curse on Google for dumping crap ads on your site.

It's mostly art and a little bit of rote science.
