Using BMR

So those of us using BMR know that if we have the anchor text near the start of the post we'll get the temporary PR but it'll roll of the page fairly quickly.

I understand google looks at things like % of links removed although I'd assume it can distinguish between a link removed and a deep link no longer showing on the home page.

So how does everyone use BMR, do you go for the short term PR or put your link lower down the post?
