Ranking for Competitive Keyword

So I've been working on ranking a keyword for the past month on a site that I've had for about a year. The in quotes competing pages is 12,800,000 results and it gets around a few hundred thousand searches a month.

I've gotten to page 2 at the bottom but am wondering what I can do to push my site to the top of page 1. I've noticed that my usual backlinking strategy is working less and less as far as moving my site up.

No idea how competitive the keyword is based on the info given...

I'm assuming you've made sure your on-page is good, internal linking is good, etc...

If you've done all that, it's time to get some contextual high PR links. Do things like guest blogging, article syndication, join a link network, etc.

I actually just joined BuildMyRank, do you know anything about the effectiveness of that?

Go for some .edu or .gov backlinks, to highten the quality of your backlinks in googles eyes

tokaje has good idea to choose,secondly some content relevant like How,What is ect are good words to start.Use Google keywords selection tools to be very interactive.SEO has the basic objective of working on appropriate keywords and fresh,great content.Good post.
