Is facebook worth more than google

Facebook made the top of the list for the second year in a row. This data led many media outlets to claim that Facebook has finally beaten Google and taken over the internet. But is search term data really that meaningful in determining who is winning the internet war?

I think the difference is that Facebook, no matter what people say, is a trend. Just as Myspace did, eventually FB will go away and everyone will ever wonder why they used it. That's unless they do some major changes and keep people interested.

Google on the other hand isn't going anywhere anytime soon. They just have their hand in too many things to just disappear.

Imagine what you would be more lost without... Google or Facebook? I don't know about you, but I'd be much more lost and out of business if Google wasn't around

Both completely different type of traffic/users.

Google users are looking for information or to buy products based on search terms.

Facebook users are there to connect with other users and see what they are upto on the internet.

Which one has more value? I think both are needed.

Both are equally valuable in their own ways. Although at the end of the day I believe that Google is more valuable. That's not only due to user intent but because of the broad scope that Google currently has. They not only have search, but email, and a variety of other services with hundreds of million of users. Those users, as mentioned in this thread, have a whole different "intent" than the users that visit Facebook.

Google is a muilti-billion dollar empire. They have interests in every
area of the world. They own everything from wind farms to
other internet companies.

They own youtube and blogspot. Maybe people forget that. Now
how many sites does google have in the top

Google had revenue of over $9 billion in the latest quarter.

Maybe you should do some research about what facebook
has done. It might surprise you.

Then come back and ask whether facebook is taking over google.

I don't know people. Facebook is a social animal. Google is an

They both mostly make their money through advertising revenue, so I don't see why all of you are saying that you cannot compare the two of them. Google is bigger and worth more, hands down.

Google made 9,026 million in revenue but quite wierdly I can't find any info on how much Facebook makes. Not even any speculation. Anyway over $9bn in 3 months!! Suck it up Facebook I would bet they make nothing of the sort.

I agree that they are 2 different types of site so its hard to compare, however Google is worth $190 billion, and facebook is worth $50, so really facebook doesn't even measure up to the titan that is google

Apart of search, FaceBook took Google off its heals when it announced a greater Advertiser income, what Google had been dominating in over the years due to their search engine dominance.

But if you ask me, you pass through Google to get to FaceBook, even though you might spend more time on facebook

Facebook is a private company, so its revenue is secret. People only guess.
Experts put it at around $10 billion a year. Profits? Well, it took amazon
years to turn one dime.

Funny how nobody even cares about a question like, will FB overtake MS...

smartphones does FB run? Um...none. Which is shipping more smartphones,

Google is multi-dimensional now. Facebook is still just a social media site.

Exactly what I think!

Although I think a bit of pride goes along with making such a project.

It's like writing a book and then selling it to someone and your name on the book gets lost in time. I wouldn't like that too much, knowing I wrote the book but nobody knows I did. Obviously, you'll be in Wikipedia and stuff, but your successor will be "the guy."

But for the right price.......I think I'd do it. Haha.
