Default Mortgage niche

After doing some research on google adwords, I found that the mortgage niche (or almost anything finance-related) has high CPC. Should I make sites in this niche then? Have you created similar sites? How did it turn out?

It is tough to rank for, I can tell you that much. If you are going after the big, broad words like mortgage it can take an extremely long time. I have only been working on my finance industry project for 4 months but it has proven to be a lot harder than anything I have ever done.

One important thing to remember is that in the finance industry there are a lot of rules or guidelines your marketing must follow. Be careful. Also links from important finance sites and the BBB can help tremendously since most bankers have these links.

Well, of course it would be extremely difficult to rank for a keyword like "mortgage", I wouldn't even try something like that, I'd go for the less competitive long-tail keywords.

Edit: jon potts, I noticed one of your sites (illinois reverse mortgage) has a .co domain. .co and .cc domains have been banned by google, so no point in trying to get the site ranked.

You are mistaken.

.co domains were never banned by google.

If you have to ask this type of question, it would be correct for me to assume you are completely new to SEO, and since you are copletely new to SEO, it will be hard to compete in the market for a niche like that.

But aren't there some low-competition keywords out there related to the niche that you could make exact match domains for and rank decently well?

I agree with you here. Sometimes long-tail keywords is the only way. Better to get something than nothing.

That is why I started a site on mortgage. I have nearly twenty articles on it and managed to rank near the bottom of the first page for one keyword that has almost no traffic. Not a keyword I was going after mind you. And still no traffic.

So yes it can pay good if you can rank. And ranking will take you a while. But anything worth having is going to be a little work.

It's actually not a great niche because only so many people have mortgages. And they only concern themselves with their mortgages a few times in their lives. Whereas everyone is required to have say, insurance. And all types of it. Make sense?

If you're ranking for a term and it has no traffic, then I would suggest ranking for it is a total waste of time.

It would be easy to rank for something obscure and you can probably place number 1 for it. If no one is searching for it, and no advertisers are bidding on it, what's the point?
