Hi Guys I just wanted you opinion or your experiences on the following information I read somewhere. DO NOT BUILD PROFILES. Google Recently changed profiles into a negative ranking factor. I've seen 5-10 client sites lower in rankings after this update, then rise back up after the thousands of profiles on each site were deleted manually. Google sees pages with a link but no content to be webspam, and they are now treating links from those pages NEGATIVELY. Profiles will kill your rankings, and I've had to get rid of several of my sites because of it. Rather than delete profiles from your sites, I recommend getting rid of any site you own that has forum profile backlinks. I was the biggest promoter of profile backlinks, as they worked up until about May 2011. They're poison now. Stay away from them like the plague. Has anyone experienced any of this happening with their site???? |

I don't think they will negatively affect your sites but Google will probably just ignore them altogether, otherwise as has already been noted if it did affect a site negatively then it will hunting time with Xrummer and the competition......

exactly knowing what affects sites negatively in the serps is waaaaay more valuable than knowing what affects sites positively let me tell you, profiles dont affect negatively at best they are ignored, but i would like to see your before and after data of using and deleting profiles |

Well! I won't agree with the statement that let go your website that have profile backlinks. I never see them indexed in google, but surely there is no penalty either. It is worth spending your money other than profile links. I couldn't agree more on above statement to defeat all my competitors with profile link blasts. Lawrence |

Tbh, I've noticed when I've done profile backlinking, it's had a negative affect on my sites so I've stopped using them altogether now. But saying that though... Does that mean we can start "Profile Nuking" our competitors now? James |

Google can not penalize you for having a certain type of backlink because you can not control who links to you.

I am going to start a link building campaign for one of my client's wordpress blog by using just forum profile backlinks. I am going to do some experiments by using forum profiles without posts, and profiles with posts. And want to closely monitor whats going to be happen...... I Follow my thread..... |

I have been successfully building sites and getting them to rank on the first page of google and I use profile links for some of these websites. I think the worst google can do regarding links is just NOT count them. From all my research that is basically the worst you will see (unless you are REALLY working the system like JC Penny or Overstock)

It is a fact that profile links have lost a lot of value to Google since May. Now, it is impossible that they affect negatively as that could be used by the competition.

They can cause your to jump around a bit, but I wouldn't say they're a negative ranking factor. I think they might appear to have a negative correlation if only because people that use profile links normally have lower quality sites.

I also believe that profile links can't effect your site in a negative manner. Having said that, if you blast too many without a method your site could see some issues. I suggest social links more and more after May 2011.

No matter how they affect rankings, I felt they were useless anyways :P I of course use them on my REAL profiles and whatnot. But those people that build like 5000 profile links are kinda unrealistic to me.

I don't think that profile link will hamper the ranking. What about the users who like to participate on different forums, create profile, put links on profile, discuss on forums and other activity.

The profile links are still useful. It depends on the quantity and quality of the backlinks. I have helped a lot of clients in reaching first page in Google using only profile backlinks so I don't think they are poison.

sure, this is very confusing topic because surely every person has different perspectives.. but still, I believe the opinion that google won't penalize some kind of backlinks so easily, because we cant 100% take control of our backlinks... |

Interesting, most of the comments I see say people think that Google penalizes profile links now, in fact I have seen SEO companies saying they are removing old profile links

Google never treats any of the spamming methods negatively. It just ignores those links that are made. If it is treated negatively it will be easy for a competitor to build such links to my site and take me down off the rankings. So if Google doesn't like a link, it just ignores it. |

Yes profile links are now the negative factor for your rankings i had one website ranking page 6 for quite some time now, recently i did profile blast to inner page of that site and 2 days later sites home page went to page 11 ![]() so yes this shows that it's a negative factor, i have also ordered 10k profile links for a competitors site sitting on page 2 for same niche, lets see what happens to that site |

I'm not sure what these profile links are. Are these like the Angela and Paul-type backlinks?

this isnt true, otherwise yes we could just ruin peopls websites by blasting profile links very quickly. the only truth is that profile links dont have as much power as in context anchor text links however they still dont harm your site. there wont be any negative ranking factors unless your site is part of a link farm but that is more like getting banned than negative ranking |

| I sort of agree with this. How do we know for sure that if someone blasts their competition's sites that the competition won't get penalized by Google? I hear this all the time and I wish I knew what the truth was. In real life, people get punished for things others have done all the time. I don't do any backlinking on my sites because I'm terrified of Google penalties/Adsense bans. I hear different things all of the time and I just don't know what to do as far as backlinking.
