Subdomains to Create Sites

Subdomains are used to create properties under a main site which are completely off-topic to the main site. Blogger.com and Wordpress.com use subdomains for every bog and website created, and there are millions which are all different.

What are your guys' thoughts on creating subdomains for either adsense or affiliate sites, to help improve rankings? I've created a couple and had good success, but I'm not sure about making too many under the same domain.

I do this: http://KEYWORD(s).MYDOMAIN.COM and it seems to work well.

Any thoughts?
