Google place and organic seo???

I am just doing seo for a local site and the keyword posses the city's name.
I just added my site at google places and after one week my website was at Number 3 in google places (when i search for my the keyword). before that update my website was at 3rd page of google in organic search results.

I am not able to understand that why that happened. I am doing local seo first time. SO can any body help me and explain it to me that what actually happened. And does off page seo effects the google places.

There are a few key factors that go into Google Place pages... the most relevant are how many times the same company is reviewed on other websites. If you have a lot of people leaving comments about you on other review websites, that will move you up very quickly. Just dont do them all from the same IP Cluster. You should go on ODesk or Backlinkteam.com to get people in different ip clusters leaving reviews for you. Place pages are hard to create backlinks to as the URL of Place Page listings are so long. The best way to optimize is to leave feedback on the place page, become the owner of it and verify it and then leave good feedback for your company on other review websites. Hope this helps. Thanks

The most likely reason for your improved ranking in google places relates to local competition. In Places you don't compete against every business in the world, just other competing local businesses....so a cafe competes against local cafes, a bar against local bars, etc. It also depends on your business...a taxidermist will probably compete state-wide.

Also, the more stuff you fill in, the better you will rank, particularly if your competitors aren't filling their Places stuff in. Reviews and business listings are especially important.

Whatever you do, DO NOT optimize using geography / place names. You will be penalized if you do because Places does this automatically.

Thanks both of you, But the problem is that my site was at 26 the position in organic search before this and now i am at 56th (or you can say that on page 6) of google. So I want to ask that why i lose my position in organic search [And also i want to share something with you this decrease happend to only for the one keyword, website for the rest of the keyword is doing well on first or second page. And also the keywords are like.... for example London Casino, Casino London etc.]

The most likely problem I can see is that google has penalized you for using geography related keywords. "London" casino will almost certainly get you penalized. Places does not work like organic search - people zoom in on a google map and type in the word "casino". I recall hearing that a misdemeanor in Places could translate to organic penalty. My advice is to take all geographical references out of your Places entry.

If you want to get rank well in place results and submit your website in local business directories, people will review your site and according to those review Google will rank up your site place results. I am also doing only organic SEO for local site which has keywords related to city name. I surprised when my site is getting rank in also place results. Now you will ask why is it happen?? Answer is Sometimes Google think that site's place page and organic page is appropriate for visitor or user then Google will display your site with both pages. This site has both pages, organic as well as place page is also there.

So conclusion is that submit your site to local business directories and also do organic SEO..Your site will rank very well with both of the pages in search engine results..
